To whom it may concern:
I am very troubled at the prospect of a gas station being built within a ¼ mile of my home. There’s absolutely NO need
for that service here in the village. Anyone driving outside of the village for work or play will be intersected by a gas
station either East or West of here within 10 minutes. Gas stations are unsightly, odorous, an environmental concern
and create unnecessary vehicular traffic.
My wife and 2 year old daughter walk up and down Town Road on the great bike paths every day. Without a doubt, if a
gas station were to be built there we would avoid that direction forever more. That includes the walks we typically take
to CVS, Puccinis and WestClay Wine.
The beauty of West Clay is that it’s a rebuke of traditional suburbs and the drive everywhere way of life. Installing an
unnecessary gas station is a step in the wrong direction. There are so many other needs in the village (fresh market,
restaurants, boutique clothing stores, bike shop, etc) that this is a waste of real estate. If the people boycott the gas
station and it’s forced to close the environmental damage will have already been done. Remediation of the surrounding
soil will make removing the gas station far too costly for another developer to repurpose. Lastly, as electric vehicles
become more accessible (Toyota anticipates half it’s sales will be EVs by 2025) this town will likely be early adopters,
which will further reduces the need.
My family and I kindly ask that you vote to reject this proposal.
