Please exercise caution and Do Not open attachments or click links from unknown senders or unexpected email. **** Hi Joe, I have been a resident of the Village of West Clay for 7 years. After my divorce, I moved here for the ease of a smaller yard, the convenience of the schools just down the street, and the enjoyment of a beautiful and active community. I knew that there would be some restrictions such as having to have my paint color approved or receiving emails when the bulb goes out on my yard lamp or having to get an okay to change my landscaping, but I understood the value of keeping the Village looking quaint and well kept! Therefore, I'm writing in opposition to the proposed variances requested by Brenwick on behalf of Family Express Corp. I walk my dog in the mornings along Towne Rd and worry about the request for the variances specifically supporting the stacking of cars as this does not provide enough room for cars coming into the gas station. This will back up onto Towne Rd. and create a major safety concern and increase in traffic. I am not the only resident that walks along the path here and it surely will not feel safe. Second, the variance requesting to move the gas pumps from behind the building to the front, further pushes it back to the cottages from the Stratford, imposing further health risks to the residents who live there with exposure to the vents that release benzene and methane vapors. We have new research on the detrimental effects of these toxins on people so it seems when we know better we should do better. Lastly, because the Village has always taken pride in the maintenance of homes and the quaint look of the Village, I am sure that this gas station will not fit in with the theme. This community was built around parks and walking paths and I don’t think it will continue to be a healthy community if you are breathing in toxic vapors and this will also change the look from quaint to more of a highway stop; I haven’t even written about the garish lights. Thank you for your time and consideration of our concerns, I do appreciate it, Beth Kurlander 2648 Buckland St. Carmel, IN 46032 1
