I. Siendard specificatioos of Clay Township Regional Was[e Distria (the District) and
Depamnent of Transportation (P1D01� shall apply for all woik and materials. Sanitary
uwer pipe shall be installed in accordance with Sution'715 oF[he cu�rent INDOT sfandard
specificafionshandbook.
2. SanitazysewergraviTypipe,unlesspressureratedpiperequiredperGlCordirectionaldrilled
pipe, shall be Polyviny] Chloride (PVC) in accordance with A577vt D3034-89 with a
minimum wall thiclmess desi@�atioo of SDR 35 aod insialled pec ASTM D2321-89
specification. PVCpipeusedshallbegroovedbell,spigotrnd,andgasketed Thepipeshall
be made of PVC plasNc heving a cell class�cation of 12454B.
3. PVC smitary sewu gavity fittings shall also conform to the reqatirements of the AS1'M
D3034-89 specification. All fittings shall be molded in oue piece wi[h standard pipe
bells, gasketed elasmmedcjoints, and spigot ends. Single piece molded PV C with
standard pipe bells, gaskets, and spigot ends for back-w-back tee wyes are acceptable.
Wall thiclmess of all fittings s6all 6ave a minimum desi�ation of SD2 26. Gaskets for
elasmmerie joints shatl be molded with a minimum cross-sectionel area of 020 square
inches eod coMorm W ASTM F477 speci6catioa.
4. All sanitary man6oles s6all be precast conerete manholes in accordaoce with ASTM CR78
aod Section 720 of the cunent"INDOT s[andard specif'ications handbook O-rings shall
wnform to C443. Double row ofKent Seal or equivalen[ shall also be applied to alljoiu4
and between riser rings end castings. Manho(e step spacing shall be m moce than 1 C.inches.
Manholes shall be airtested for leakage in accordmce with ASTM C1244-02, StandardTest
MetLod for Coacrete Sewei ManLoles by the Negative Air Pressure (Vuuum) Test.
A. Iostallation and operarion of vacuum equipment aud indicating devices must be in
accordance utiW manufacGirers' recommendations and perLomtance specifications
which have beenprovided bythe manufacNrer and acceptedbyfhe Distric[ Engineer.
The vacuum equipment must 6e capable oftesHng the rnNre manhole, including the
casd'ng and �iser rings.
B. With the vacuum tester set in place:
I. Connect the vecuum pump lo [he oufle[ port wi[h the valve oprn.
2. Diaw a vacuum of ten (10) inches of Hg. (5 psi) and clase t6e valve.
C. Accepted standards for leakage will be estabGshed from tLe elapsed time for a
negative pressure cLange from ten (10) inches ro aine (9) inches of inerc�¢y. The
maeimum allowable leakage rate for a four (4) foot diameter roanhule must be�in
accardance with tfie following;

sewer.
21. Manhole castings shall be etamped SAMTARY SEWER (Neenah Casting R-1772 or
East )ordan 1022ZIGS) and be self-seating type. The cartingJlange shol/ be 34 inches
and the c%ar opening sMll be min. 10- 13/16 inches. Water[ight castings shall 6e bolh
down East Jordan 1022Z1PT and also a[amped SANITAELY 9EWER.
22. The minimum slope of [he sewer shall be:

23. The Contractor shall provide measurements of the slope ofthe sewer for each maohole
sectiou as consWction peugresses. Such measuremen�s shafl be certified by a Registered
Land Surveyor or Engineer and be available an-site for observation by the DistricYs
Iu.spector. No more than three manhole aections can be consWcted in advance of such
measuremevts.
24. In the eveul the Contractor dces aot meet the�minimum slopea, the aewer seceion aod any
othu affected sewer sections shall be recoostructed ro meet such minimum slopes.

5. Butyl nbber coating with plasdc wrap shall be applied around each maN�ole joint from 3-
inches above W 3-inches below eachjoivt. The appropriate primer shall be applied prior lo
applying the mbber coatiug. Inside joints to be filfed with precoat plug materieL Entire
exterioe surFace ofsanitary aewer maoholes shall be sprayed with a bituminous coating aod
all exterior gap e�cposure of riser rings Shall be bxk plastered or goufed with nonsluink
grout.
6. The. manhole chimneys, includiug all riser rings sha11 be sealed using flex rib interoal
cL'vmey seal manufachved by Cre[ex, NPC,. or a Distric[ approved equal. The flex rib
intemal chimney seal shall extend from a minimum of 3-inehes below the rop of t6e cooe
section to 3-inches over the manhole casting frame or per manufacturers installation
procedures if directed otherwise. Intemal Chimney Seal shall tie installed after rt�an6ole
vacuum testing and prior ro Final acceptance. Wate[ test may be done, per manufacturet or
Districts recommendation, to provide assurance that intema] chimney seal is water tight.

10. Initial asbuilts shall be presrnted to the iaspecting engineer prior to final submittal to the
Diskict for review, othmvise Contractor shall be required to furnish the developeY s
Engineer with a set of priufs showing actual sewer locations and invens including laleral
locatioq dep[h, and Irngth. Such asbuilt prints must be received by the Engineer before
[he final contmct paymeut can be authorized. Asbuil[s shall be submitted per the Districts
current standard which can be found at www.ctrwdorg.
11. The sanitecy sewer le[erals and sNbs [e�mina[ian shall be indica[ed on lhe surface wiN a
detectable roetal post set immediately above lhe said terroination point if full connectlon
is not immediatety uiade.
12. P,II sanitary sewer ]ines upon completion will be roquired [o pass a low pressure air test.
Said test shall be wnducted acrording to ASI^rt F 14ll-92, and sha116e wimessed by a
District employec or Ihe Diskicts representative. The testing shall be in accordance wi[t�
Table 1 as follows wit6 0.5 psi beiug added for each foot af water above the sewer line
being tested. Sewer Iines shall be subject to visual leak inapectlon at downstream
manho�es with all visual leaks beivg repaired and subject to [elevisivg requesis by the
Distric[.
13. Prior to fmat deflec[iou test (mandrel tes[) all maiulines shall be cleaued and free of any
debrts. Deflectlon tests shall be perfomed on all flexible' pipe after the 5na1 bacldill has
been in place at least 3Q daya. No pipe shall exceed a vertical deflection of 5% deflection
test resulta. (*The following are conaidered non-flexible pipes: wnerote pipe, ductile iron
pipe, and cazt'von pipe). The. de�ection test shall be perFmmed with a nine-point
mandrel. Pmving riugs shall be available at time of rest otherwiae no testiog will be
allowed. All mandtel testiag shall be witneased by a District employee or the Districts
rep�esenta[ive.
14. The ends of a0 Ieteials are to be plugged water tight with a gasketed cap capable of
withstanding a low pressure a'v test without leakage. Lakrals shall be subject to visuel
leak inspectlou at downstream ma���oles with all visual leaks beiug repaired
15. Bedding for �ezible pipe and rigid pipe shall be�No. 8 crushed stone &om 6-inches below
[0 12-inches above 1Le pipe. Mavholes shall be placed on no less than 6inches of Na 8
crushed stone bedding.
