UDO 5.05 E: buildings greater than 3 stories shall be stepped back resulting no more than 3 stories
of facade being on the same vertical plane. Required stepbacks shall be a minimum of 12 ft.

UDO Considerations:
•May assume homogenous roof lines (see exhibit)
•Concerned with proximity of buildings exceeding three stories adjacent to single-family homes
which do not exist in this section of the North End development
Building DESIGN at North End:
•Buildings utilize gabled roofs and are appropriate in scale across from townhomes
•Buildings utilize a center, double loaded corridor, with elevators
•Building B has a podium garage and Building C does not utilize a garage; stepbacks would work
more readily in a wrap building, which encloses an above grade parking structure
•Transitioning from double loaded corridors to 12’ stepbacks on the fourth floor would require it
to go from double loaded to single loaded corridors only at the fourth floor, or otherwise the
footprint of the building would need to be 24’ wider
