FS0-2 - FIRE SUPPRESSION SPECIFICATIONS
DEFINITIONS WORKING PLANSAS USED IN THIS SECTION MEAN THOSE DOCUMENTS (INCLUDING DRAWINGS AND HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS) PREPARED PURSUANT TO THE REQUIREMENTS CONTAINED IN NFPA 13 CURRENTLY ENFORCED EDITIONS FOR OBTAINING APPROVAL OF THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION. OTHER DEFINITIONS FOR FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS ARE LISTED IN NFPA 13. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM IS A "WET-PIPE" SYSTEM EMPLOYING AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS ATTACHED TO A PIPING SYSTEM CONTAINING WATER AND CONNECTED TO AN UNDERGROUND CITY WATER SUPPLY SO THAT WATER DISCHARGES IMMEDIATELY FROM SPRINKLERS OPENED BY FIRE WHICH IS REQUIRED THROUGHOUT THE TENANT AREA AS INDICATED ON THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A HYDRAULICALLY CALCULATED WET PIPE AUTOMATIC FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM DESIGNED AND INSTALLED TO PRODUCE DENSITIES OF NOT LESS THAN 0.10 GPM PER SQUARE FOOT FOR THE HYDRAULICALLY MOST REMOTE 1500 SQUARE FEET IN ALL LIGHT HAZARD AREAS BASED ON THE USE OF 165 DEGREE F TEMPERATURE RATED SPRINKLERS SPACED AT A MAXIMUM OF 225 SQUARE FEET PER HEAD; AND TO PROVIDE DENSITIES OF NOT LESS THAN 0.15 GPM PER SQUARE FOOT FOR THE HYDRAULICALLY MOST REMOTE 2500 SQUARE FEET IN ALL ORDINARY GROUP 1 AND 2 AREA BASED ON THE USE OF 165° F TEMPERATURE RATED SPRINKLERS SPACED AT A MAXIMUM OF 130 SQUARE FEET PER HEAD. SUBMITTALS DELEGATED-DESIGN SUBMITTAL: FOR SPRINKLER SYSTEMS INDICATED TO COMPLY WITH PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND DESIGN CRITERIA, INCLUDING ANALYSIS DATA PERFORMED BY THE QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL SPRINKLER DESIGNER FOR THEIR PREPARATION. PRODUCT DATA: SUBMIT MANUFACTURER'S TECHNICAL PRODUCT DATA AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR EACH TYPE SPRINKLERS, VALVE, PIPING SPECIALTY, AND FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALTY. SHOP DRAWINGS: OBTAIN EXISTING STATE APPROVED WORKING PLANS AND REVISE AS REQUIRED. AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER FIRE PROTECTION DRAWINGS AND CALCULATIONS PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13 IDENTIFIED AS "WORKING PLANS," SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION. APPROVED SPRINKLER PIPING DRAWINGS; SUBMIT WORKING PLANS, PREPARED ACCORDING TO NFPA 13, THAT HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION, INCLUDING HYDRAULIC CALCULATIONS IF APPLICABLE. MAINTENANCE DATA: SUBMIT MAINTENANCE DATA AND PARTS LISTS FOR EACH TYPE SPRINKLERS, PIPING SPECIALTY AND FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALTY, FOR INCLUSION IN OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL. TEST REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES: SUBMIT TEST REPORTS AND CERTIFICATES INCLUDING "CONTRACTORS MATERIAL AND TEST CERTIFICATE FOR ABOVEGROUND PIPING" AS DESCRIBED IN NFPA 13. QUALITY ASSURANCE INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS:INSTALLATION AND ALTERATIONS OF FIRE PROTECTION PIPING, EQUIPMENT, SPECIALTIES, AND ACCESSORIES, AND REPAIR AND SERVICING OF EQUIPMENT SHALL BE PERFORMED BY ONLY A QUALIFIED INSTALLER. THE TERM QUALIFIED MEANS EXPERIENCED IN SUCH WORK (EXPERIENCED SHALL MEAN HAVING A MINIMUM OF FIVE PREVIOUS PROJECTS SIMILAR IN SIZE AND SCOPE TO THIS PROJECT), FAMILIAR WITH ALL PRECAUTIONS REQUIRED, AND HAS COMPLIED WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION. QUALIFICATIONS FOR WELDING PROCESSES AND OPERATIONS: COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF AWS D10.9 SPECIFICATIONS FOR QUALIFICATIONS OF WELDING PROCEDURES AND WELDERS FOR PIPING AND TUBING, LEVEL AR-3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS: COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE FOLLOWING CODES: NFPA 13:STANDARD FOR THE INSTALLATION OF SPRINKLER SYSTEMS, CURRENTLY ENFORCED EDITION. UL AND FM COMPLIANCE:FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS SHALL BE UNDERWRITER'S LABORATORIES LISTED AND LABELED, AND FACTORY MUTUAL RESEARCH CORPORATION (FMRC) APPROVED FOR THE APPLICATION ANTICIPATED. AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION PUBLIC SAFETY FIRE PREVENTION AND BUILDING SAFETY COMMISSION COMPLIANCE: INSTALL FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL REQUIREMENTS OF FIRE MARSHAL. CODES: INDIANA BUILDING CODE CURRENTLY ENFORCED EDITION. INDIANA FIRE PROTECTION CODE CURRENTLY ENFORCED EDITION. INDIANA MECHANICAL CODE CURRENTLY ENFORCED EDITION. PIPING INSTALLATIONS LOCATIONS AND ARRANGEMENTS:INSTALL NEW CROSS MAINS AND BRANCH PIPING TO NEW SPRINKLERS AS REQUIRED FROM EXISTING FIRE MAIN TO TENANT AREA. CONTRACTOR TO VERIFY EXISTING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO START OF WORK. INSTALL SPRINKLER TO PROVIDE FOR SYSTEM DRAINAGE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13. USE APPROVED FITTINGSTO MAKE ALL CHANGES IN DIRECTION, BRANCH TAKEOFF FROM MAINS, AND REDUCTIONS IN PIPE SIZES. HANGERS AND SUPPORTS: COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF NFPA 13. HANGER AND SUPPORT SPACING AND LOCATIONS FOR PIPING JOINED WITH GROOVED MECHANICAL COUPLINGS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GROOVED MECHANICAL COUPLING MANUFACTURER'S WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS, FOR RIGID SYSTEMS. PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM DAMAGE WHERE SUBJECT TO EARTHQUAKE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA 13. AUTOMATIC SPRINKLERS SPRINKLERS: FUSIBLE LINK TYPE, AND STYLE AS REQUIRED BY THE APPLICATION. UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED, PROVIDE QUICK RESPONSE SPRINKLERS WITH "ORDINARY" TEMPERATURE RANGE. SPRINKLERS FINISHES: THAT MATCH STYLE AND FINISH OF ADJACENT AREAS. CONFIRM STYLE AND FINISH WITH THE OWNER. IN THE ABSENCE OF AN ESTABLISHED STANDARD, PROVIDE SPRINKLERS WITH THE FOLLOWING FINISHES: CONCEALED STYLE: BRIGHT CHROME, WITH PAINTED WHITE ESCUTCHEON PLATE: SIDEWALL STYLE:BRIGHT CHROME WITH WHITE ESCUTCHEON SPRINKLERS INSTALLATION SPRINKLERS SHALL BE LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF TILE IN AREAS WITH 2x2 FEET CEILING TILES, EXCEPT WHERE EXTRA SPRINKLERS ARE REQUIRED. THEY MAY BE LOCATED ON EITHER CENTERLINE OF THE TILE TO WITHIN 6" OF THE GRID LINE. SPRINKLERS MAY ALSO BE LOCATED AT THE 6" DIMENSION FROM THE GRID LINE AT THE CORNER OF THE TILE. USE PROPER TOOLS TO PREVENT DAMAGE DURING INSTALLATION. FIELD QUALITY CONTROL SPRINKLER PIPING FLUSHING:PRIOR TO CONNECTING SPRINKLER RISERS FOR FLUSHING, FLUSH WATER FEED MAINS, LEAD-IN CONNECTIONS AND CONTROL PORTIONS OF SPRINKLER PIPING. AFTER FIRE SPRINKLER PIPING INSTALLATION HAS BEEN COMPLETE AND BEFORE PIPING IS PLACED IN SERVICE, FLUSH ENTIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM AS REQUIRED TO REMOVE FOREIGN SUBSTANCES, UNDER PRESSURE AS SPECIFIED IN NFPA 13. CONTINUE FLUSHING UNTIL WATER IS CLEAR, AND CHECK TO ENSURE THAT DEBRIS HAS NOT CLOGGED SPRINKLERS. HYDROSTATIC TESTING: AFTER FLUSHING SYSTEM, TEST FIRE SPRINKLER PIPING HYDROSTATICALLY, FOR A PERIOD OF TWO HOURS, AT NO LESS THAN 200 PSI CHECK SYSTEM FOR LEAKAGE OF JOINTS. MEASURE HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE AT LOW POINT OF EACH SYSTEM OR ZONE BEING TESTED. REPAIR OR REPLACE PIPING SYSTEM AS REQUIRED TO ELIMINATE LEAKAGE IN ACCORDANCE WITH NFPA STANDARDS FOR "LITTLE OR NO LEAKAGE" AND RETEST AS SPECIFIED TO DEMONSTRATE COMPLIANCE.
