She has a widely varied portfolio of work, a modern but flexible style, and a palette that traverses the spectrum. Examples of her work span warehouses, residences, offices, shipping containers, pianos, cars, snowplows, canvases, skulls, and more. She studied art in her time at both Duke and Purdue Universities. She deeply cares about the artistic community, as seen in her volunteer work with after school programs, charity art auctions, and artistic sponsorship campaigns as well as her involvement with Nickel Plate Arts, the Noblesville Public Art Committee, the Arts Council of Indianapolis, and more. “It wasn’t until I ditched the concept of a traditional canvas that I found my artistic purpose,” says Koda. “I truly believe that art gives us a lens to see others and ourselves in new, informative, and truly beautiful avenues previously unexplored. My mission is to beautify spaces in ecofriendly, culturally inclusive, economically impactful, off the wall ways to bring more color to this world.” Previous clients include: Municipal: City of Fishers, IN - City of Noblesville,IN - Arts Council of Indianapolis - City of Elwood, IN - Town of Zionsville,IN - Zionsville Cultural Board - Town of Cumberland, IN - Anderson, IN Main Street - Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc. Michigan Rd., Carmel, IN CONCEPT NARRATIVE: This design aims to highlight how crucial positive energy is as both (1) an internal force that we wear as armor and (2) an external force that we share with others and use to connect with the world. This design also shows how different people generate positive energy in different ways. We all face differing, poignant challenges in finding our light and sharing it. We need to understand the challenges of others to better serve as community members and neighbors. Through mutual respect and understanding, we will all find the light! CONTENT & IMAGERY: ●The design is meant to be a beacon of positivity and light ●The various figures are wearing their energy as armor, finding and using the light within them ○Although they look like portraits, none of the figures are meant to be specific individuals 5 ○The central figure represents genders, peoples of color, and cultural fashions that are typically underrepresented in public art and on public stages; her image invites viewers to celebrate the inclusivity she represents ○The text on the T-shirt on the figure at left says “2 Believe Again”, inspiring people to trust each other ●A sunflower is included because they grow with their face towards the light ●A daylily is included for its symbolism of sacrifice for others: traditionally it represents the sacrifice of mothers for their children, but in this context it is a wish for all of us to remember to serve each other ●The overall bright but contrasting color palette (reds, yellows, purples, blues) gives energy and direction 6 TECHNIQUE: The mural will be painted on panels that will be attached to the north side of the building, on both the building wall and on the low wall in front of the building, with the illusion of continuity between the two surfaces. (concept image shows separation for clarity--to indicate that both surfaces are being used) The panels on the low brick wall will be shaped as indicated, with the panels on the main structure unshaped. The panels would be attached to a framework per the design below; the framework would be attached to the wall surfaces via screws. The screws would be inserted into mortar joints on the brick surfaces, for easier repair if the mural is removed. MAX-metal panels are an aluminum composite that is standard in the sign industry. It consists of a total 3mm thickness: there is a solid polyethylene core with a 0.15mm aluminum sheet bonded to each side.View the product information sheet and the limited warranty for more information about the product. A combination of top-shelf Sherwin Williams exterior-grade primers and latex paints with high-grade artists’ acrylics will be used to brush/hand-paint the design onto the panels. After completion, SHER-CLER marine coating will seal the paint for protection. 7 8 WORK PLAN: ●Installation method confirmed – by April 2021 ●In-studio painting -- May/June 2021 ●On-site installation -- late June / early July 2021 This plan can also be shifted to a July - October timeline if that better suits Jiffy Lube’s cash flow. MAINTENANCE: Little maintenance should be needed, as the design will be painted with high-grade materials and sealed with marine coating. That said, I can be contacted for 1 year after installation for maintenance, with no cost. I am also happy to provide a 5-year-mark consultation on further maintenance requests. 9 Product Specification Data 800.542.9941 • 1585 Fencorp Dr. Fenton, MO 63026 • www.grimco.com Statement of Practical Use We believe the information on this product to be accurate.
