Observe the following guidelines: WARNING NOTES: WARNING Joists are unstable until braced laterally Bracing Includes: Blocking Hangers Sheathing Rim Board Strut Lines Rim Joist DO NOT stack building materials on unsheathed joists. Stack only over beams or walls. DO NOT walk on joists that are lying flat. DO NOT walk on joists until braced. INJURY MAY RESULT. All blocking, hangers, rim boards and rim joists at the end supports of the TJI ® joists must be completely installed and properly nailed. 2. Laterial strength, like braced end wall or an existing deck, must be established at the ends of the bay. This can also be accomplished by a temporary or permanent deck (sheathing) fastened to the first 4 feet of joists at the end of the bay. 3. Safety bracing of 1x4 (minimum) must be nailed to a braced end wall or sheathed area (as in note 2) and to each joist. Without this bracing, buckling sideways or rollover is highly probable under light construction loads - such as a worker or one layer of unnailed sheathing. 5. Ends of cantilevers require safety bracing on both the top and bottom flanges. 6. The flanges must remain straight within 1/2" from true alignment. 4. Sheathing must be completely attached to each TJI® joist before additional loads can be placed on the system. Flat blocking panels between each joist. Nail to top plate with connections equivalent to floor panel schedule. Less than 5"E9 118" TJ ® Rim Board or 1 14" TimberStrand® LSL. Attach to joist with one 10d (0.131" x 3") nail at top and bottom flanges. Nail rim to blocking panel and blocking panel to plate with connections equivalent to floor panel schedule. TJI® Joist WARNING Joists are unstable until laterally braced Safety bracing required during installation 2'-0" Max 2" 2x6(min) or 1-18" x 4-1/2" (min) TJ® rim board nailed to top plate w/8d (0.113" x 2-3/8") nails at 6" o/c at panel edges and in field. Block must be full length between joists and tight to each flange 2416 span rated sheathing (716" min). Attach with 8d (0.113" x 2-38") nails at 6" o.c. along panel edges and field. Use pressure treated plywood for ground level cantilevers 1-18" TJ® rim board to match joist depth Lateral load transfer of detail = 220 PLF. Additional connections may be required to transfer loads from wall above First Floor System Scale: 1/4" = 1'0"These placement plans have been developed for the specificationof products based on project information provided.
