Re: Residential Deck Remodel Assessment
Gajaria Residence
585 Bolderwood Lane
Carmel, Indiana
MEI File No.: 0421-004
Dear Mr. Bernard;
As per your request, we have completed a structural evaluation on the possible
structural issues with the construction of the deck of the above referenced residential
remodel project. The results of our inspection revealed the following:
1. The pergola framing, in our engineering opinion, is adequate per the lightly-
loaded open-framed requirements within the Indiana adopted Residential
Building Code. The pergola framing is constructed as an open-air uncovered
roof structure.
2. Structural calculations showing the structural adequacy of the addition of the 2x8
to the floor joist end support. The addition of the 2x8 results in the proper
support of the ends of the floor joists, according to the provisions outlined in
Table R301.5 in the Indiana adopted International Residential Code.
3. The maximum spacing of the handrail and guardrail support posts for the deck
and stairs is presented in sheet 4 of the calculations. The maximum spacing of
the 4x6 posts is 5.2-feet.
Please find enclosed the calculations showing the adequacy of the structural framing in
question.
The above stated opinions are based on the physical evidence present at the time
of our inspection.
Unless further technical assistance is required, the writer considers the above as
complete and sufficient per the scope of engineering work requested, and will provide
no further technical assistance.
Respectfully submitted;
