WHEREAS, Hamilton County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state
with an estimated population of 140,000 people; and
WHEREAS, Hamilton County' s growth is anticipated to continue at an accelerated
rate; and
WHEREAS, Hamilton County is the largest county in the state without a state
assisted higher education facility operated by one of the state universities or colleges; and
WHEREAS, over 70 percent of Hamilton County' s six public high schools and one
private high school now graduate over 1,500 students per year with over 70 percent
wishing to pursue higher education; and
WHEREAS, all students must seek their post high school education outside of
Hamilton County due to having no facility in the county; and
WHEREAS, many students do not have the financial means to pursue post high
school education on campuses due to costs; and
WItEREAS, a higher education facility is considered by business and industry to be
a very important asset for its employees and their families; and
WHEREAS, higher education facilities bring culture, enrichment and creativity to
the citizens of the greater communities in which they are located.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City
of Carmel, Indiana hereby supports the development of a comprehensive state supported
post high school educational facility in Hamilton County.
BE IT FATHER RESOLVED that the Hamilton County Alliance, school
administrators, business and industry representatives, and interested citizens are
encouraged to study the needs and development of a plan for this much desired asset to
support higher educational opportunities for the benefit of the Greater Hamilton County
community.
