HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-07-20-94-03Longevity ReinstResolution BW-7-20-94-3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY TO ESTABLISH LONGEVITY REINSTATEMENT FOR CURRENTLY ACTIVE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF CARMEL WHO HAVE, OR WILL SATISFY THE BRIDGING RULES OF RESOLUTION BW-?-20-94-~ WHEREAS, an Ordinance was established by the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana, on March 5, 1984 establishing longevity benefits for City employees through Ordinance D-398 as codified in Section 2-51 of the Carmel City Code; and, WHEREAS, the establishment of said ordinance did not exempt employees from bridging years of ~ervice due to breaks in service to the City; and, WHEREAS, the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety has duly established a policy with regard to rules of bridging years of service through Resolution 7-20-94-3; and, WHEREAS, the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safet~ finds it in the best interest of the City of Carmel, Indiana to address the issue of establishing the eligibility of active full-time employees currently in the employ of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works and Safety that effective immediately, the following policy exists pertaining to bridging longevity for current active full-time employees of the City of Carmel: Should a current active employee have a recorded interruption in employment for any reason, the entitlement of earned longevity pay will bridged as follows: 1) If the employee returned to a full-time position within (not more than) sixty (60) calendar days, the employee will be entitled to full credit of their longevity pay received prior to said interruption beginning with the first day of the next pay period from the date of approval of this document. The prior longevity shall be added to the longevity earned by the employee since their re- employment.* 2) If the employee returned to a full-time position after sixty (60) calendar days, and if the employee has since completed two (2) calendar years of re-employment, the employee is entitled to receive full credit of their longevity pay received prior to said interruption beginning with the first day of the next pay period from the date of approval of this document. The prior longevity shall be added to the longevity earned by the employee since their re-employment.* 3) If the employee returned to a full-time position after sixty (60) days, but has not yet completed two (2) calendar year~ of re-employment, upon completion of two (2) calendar years of re-employment, the employee will be entitled to receive full credit of their longevity pay received prior to said interruption beginning with the first day of the next pay period. (If the two-year anniversary date falls on the first day of a pay period, the employee is eligible for prior credit effective that day) The prior longevity shall be added to the longevity earned by the employee since their re-employment., ,Longevity is credited and accrued only for time worked and earned by the employee. Longevity earned by the employee during the two-year (and subsequent years) re-employment will be subject to the rules of longevity as stated in Carmel City Code Section 2-51. RESOLUTION BW-7-20-94- 3 This Resolution affects only the future pay of eligible employees and does not provide entitlement to the employee for back-pay.
