HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC-03-15-93-10 PrevntChildAbuseRESOLUTION CC-3-15-93-10 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A COMMUNITY EFFORT TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE WHEREAS, Almost every week in Indiana, a child dies from abuse or neglect. WHEREAS, in the spring of 1989, Bonnie Finney of Norfolk, Virginia took a stand against child abuse when she tied a symbolic ribbon to the antenna of her car, after her 3-year-old grandson was a tragic victim of child abuse; and WHEREAS, her grandchild' s death gave her blue ribbon its own inspiring message, where in her own words she said "the blue ribbon serves as a constant reminder to protect our most precious gift of all, our children;" and WHEREAS, the spirit of Bonnie Finney's blue ribbon grew, and it has inspired a nationwide effort to stop child abuse, so where the blue ribbon every day until it becomes tattered and frayed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the undersigned members of the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana, and others wear a blue ribbon until it becomes tattered and frayed so that others will know that we are concerned about this tragedy that affects children all over the country.
