AchievResolution 1-20-92-1 RECOGNITION OF STUDENTS FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AND OTHER HONORS A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA ESTABLISHING A POLICY TO RECOGNIZE THOSE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE CARMEL-CLAY SCHOOL SYSTEM WHO HAVE ACHIEVED AN EXCELLENT SEMESTER REPORT CARD OR OTHER SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY. WHEREAS, the Common Council and Administration believes students who achieve a 4.0 average for a semester grade are an asset to this community; and WHEREAS, the Common Council desires to communicate its appreciation to those students who have achieved this level of academic excellence; and WHEREAS, the Common Council wishes to recognize students who have achieved excellence in other important areas which include, but not limited to, math, music, science, the arts, community service and sports; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA AS FOLLOWS: Section I. The Common Council seeks the assistance and cooperation of the Carmel-Clay School administration in identifying and notifying students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 4.0, or letter grades of "A" in every area where a letter grade is given. The Common Council further requests that each school principal attend the meeting of the Common Council designated to recognize the students from his or her school and participate by introducing those students to the Council and the City Administration. Section II. The Common Council, at a regularly scheduled meeting following the close of a schools semester, will ask each eligible student, and his or her family and invitees, to attend the meeting at which they will be recognized. The students who will be recognized will be at the discretion of the Carmel-Clay School administration, however, the Common Council desires to recognize eligible students in grades 3 through 12. Section III. If the number of students eligible for recognition. along with their family and friends, is deemed to be to many to be accommodated at a single session of the Common Council, the recognition process may be distributed over two or more meetings. Section IV. From time to time, other students may achieve honors for various reasons and the Common Council desires to recognize these students as well. Therefore, the Council will accept nominations from any Parent-Teacher Organization in the Carmel-Clay Schools system or the Carmel-Clay School administration for students they believe have earned a distinction that warrants public recognition of their accomplishments.
