A RESOLUTION REVISING THE COMPENSATION POLICY FOR CANINE OFFICER[~.=-~ND ESTABLISHING A RATE OF PAY FOR CANINE CARE WHEREAS, the Car~:e] Metropolitan Police Department maintains a canine section; and WHEREAS, the Carme]. Board of Public Works and Safety approved a comp time policy dated 2/18/91 for canine officcrs;.and WHEREAS, the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the canine officers desire to revise the compexzsation policy for canine Officers and establish a new rate of pay for canine care time, NO~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Carmei Board of Public Works and Safety that the following policy shall be establ'~.shed for canine caxe: A. The 19 days per year comp time program is discontinued. Accrued comp time currexatly vested in each canine officer shall be taken when mutually-agreed to between the officer and his supervisor. B. It is agreed that a canine officer shall spend one hour per day seven days per week engaged in canine cure. C. The canine officer shall be paid 66.66% of his/her law enforcement officer's rate of pay per hour for hours worked on canine care. D. Recognizing that work schedules are subject to change depending upon the needs of the Metropolitan Police Department, the initial schedule of the canine officers will be 7.5 hours per day for 16 days in a 24-day pay period working as a law enforcement officer and one hour per day for 24 days in said 24-day pay period engaged ~n canine care, A canine officer's regular work schedule shall i~clude 144 hours per pay period. All time worked in excess of 144 hours but less than 147 hours per pay period shall be at straight time the rate of the job performed, All work in arcass of 147 hours in a pay period shall be at one and one-half times the r~gular rate of the job performe~, A canine officer may be credited with comp time in lieu of pay for work in excess of 144 hours per pay period. E. The above policy shall become effective on the first day of the new Day period of the Metropolitan Police Department following the approval of the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety.
