HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-12-23-92-04 Substance AbuseRESOLUTION BW 12-23-92-4 CARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY WHEREAS, The City currently has a substance abuse policy established by Resolution BW 12-9-92-8; and WHEREAS, The City finds it necessary to modify the content of the original policy, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety, that the City. of Carmel adopt the attached as the official substance abuse policy affecting all City employees. This resolution is effective January 1, 1993. Adopted this 23rd day of December 1992, by the Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety, Carmel, Indiana, Hamilton County, Indiana. CARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS Attest: CITY OF CARMEL SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY The City of Carmel will enact an official policy regarding substance abuse for all City employees. This REVISED policy (attached) will become effective January 1, 1993. SUBSTANCE ABUSE Drug/Alcohol Policy The City of Carmel PROHIBITS any City employee from using, being under the influence of, or possessing alcohol or non- prescribed controlled substances during working hours on City property, and at ALL times while in City vehicles. The only allowable exception to this policy as it would apply to a controlled substance is; when prescribed by a physician or dentist in the treatment of said employee. When controlled substances, narcotics, or other drugs are prescribed, an employee shall notify his or her supervisor of the use of any such ~prescribed medications which may impair their ability to operate vehicles, heavy machinery or equipment, or to performthe essential functions of the job. The intent of this exception is to protect an employee from injuring himself or herself or others when the prescribed medication could impair the ability to function safely. ANY City employee in violation of the above stated policy will be subject to disciplinary action which may include IMMEDIATE TERMINATION. Employee Signature
