HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-02-18-91-01Canine Off.CompA RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A COMP TIME POLICY FOR CANINE OFFICERS WHEREAS, the Carmel Metropolitan Police Department maintains a canine section; and WHEREAS, the officers who handle canines expend off-duty time in the care and maintenance of their canine charges; and WHEREAS, the canine officers are entitled to comp time credit for off-duty time expended in the care of these animals; NOW, therefore be it resolved by the Carmel Board Public Works & Safety that the following comp time policy shall apply to canine officers: In addition to any other benefit, holiday, vacation time or Garcia payment to which a canine officer may be entitled, each canine officer shall be entitled to 19 additional paid days per year, as comp time for those additional hours required for canine maintenance and care. The 19 days comp time are based upon a 24 day pay period and applied as follows: Ae Each pay period consists of 136 regularly scheduled work hours. Each canine officer shall be automatically entitled to 11 additional hours per 24 day pay period as the comp time for off-duty canine care. Any hours worked by a canine officer beyond the regularly scheduled 136 hours per 24 day pay period shall be considered overtime, subject to Garcia compensation. Calculations of the 19 additional days and 11 hours per 24 day period are attached as Exhibit A to this resolution. ALL OF WHICH IS RESOLVED this 18th day of February, 1991. CARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY ATTE STAT I ON: d: \wp50data\c ar\res-comp. 214 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) Exhibit A Calculations of the 19 Additional days and 11 hour Add On: FLSA allows a police officer to work these hours per 24-day pay period: Carmel Police Department Officers work 16 out of every 24-day pay period on an 8.5 hour shift, or: There are then 11 hours left before the City is obligated to pay Garcia overtime at 1.5 regular pay. (147-136 = 11). There are 15.2 overtime pay periods per year. Thus 15.2 x 11 hours = 19.67 days each year. (However, the canine officers agree to an even 19 days. ) 147 136 11
