RESOLUTION NO. CC-09-17-01-04
A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA,
TO APPROVE FUNDS FOR THE AMERICAN RED CROSS' DISASTER RELIEF FUND ON
BEHALF OF THE CITIZENS OF CARMEL, INDIANA
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, at 8:48 a.m., EST, the United States of America
and its people were victimized by a series of intentional, subhuman, unprecedented, cowardly
and despicable terrorist attacks aimed at crippling the economic, political and military epicenters
of our nation; and
WHEREAS, the reprehensible and unprovoked acts of September 11, 2001, have
resulted in the indescribable emotional and physical suffering, maiming, destruction and deaths
of thousands of irmocent American citizens and their families and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, President George W. Bush has labeled these savage attacks upon our nation
and freedom as an act of war and has called upon all Americans to support their country,
preserve national values, pray for the victims and do everything possible to assist and support the
rescue effort and repair the damage caused by these senseless purveyors of evil; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Cities of New York, N. Y. and Washington, D.C., the
firefighters, police officers and emergency workers in these respective communities, and others
immediately impacted by this devastating tragedy find themselves in immediate need of
emergency provisions; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Cannel and the citizens of the City of
Carmel have a deep and abiding love for the United States of America and their fellow citizens
and a profound desire to stand as patriots and support the directive of our Commander-in-Chief,
President George W. Bush; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Camel, the Common Council of the
City of Carmel formally supportsthe organized relief effort aimed at relieving the suffering of the
victims of the September 11, 2001, attack on our great nation;
WHEREAS, the Common Council wishes to express, in a constructive manner,
compassion and sympathy for those persons impacted by the events of this past week,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
Cannel, Hamilton County, Indiana:
That the Common Council, on behalf of the citizens of the City of Carmel, hereby
authorizes the expenditure of $10,000 (Ten-Thousand Dollars) to the American Red Cross
Disaster Relief Fund.
