HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC-07-27-77 48 Hour Mtg Notice WHEREAS the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana recog-
nizes the desirability of openness in its deliberations, and its
decision-making processes; and
WHEREAS the Common Council of the City of Carmel hopes to encourage
input from all its members and the public at-large; and
WHEREAS the Common Council of the City of Carmel recognizes that
the Indiana GenerSl Assembly has passed a so called "Sunshine" law
which has the effect of mandating open deliberations and open decision-
making, and such law becomes effective on September 1, 1977;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of
· Carmel, Indiana that it intends to uphold not only the letter but
the spirit of said state statute; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of
Carmel, Indiana calls for 48 hours notice to all Council members and
to the local news media prior to the convening of any Common Council
meeting or mmeting of any of its standing or ad hoc committees where
the purpose of such meetings is to transact official City business .
including the receipt of information; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Carmel,
Indiana that no official action may be taken by the Council or any of
its committees unl~ess such meeting is a regular scheduled meeting or
proper notice has been given to all its members; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE Common Council of the City of Carmel,
'Indiana that nothing in this resolution shall effect the ability of
Common Council to meet in Executive Session on those matters allowed under
the new state statute ,- providing proper notice has been given to the
local news media and to all Council members in accordance with said
statute.
This resolution shall serve as the official policy of the Common
Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana after its passage on the
day of July, 1977.
