HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC-05-03-82 St. Vincent Hosp.RESOLUTION 5-3-82-1 WHEREAS increased interest has been shown by private and not-for-profit institutions to construct and operate hospital or satellite hospital facilities in the Carmel-Clay area, and WHEREAS, at least two out-of-state corporations, a Marion County not-for-profit hospital corporation and at least one in-state private concern have all expressed interest in such facilities, and WHEREAS, the Carmel-Clay community with a population of over 32,000 people has been without local hospital facilities, and the need for such an all-purpose medical facility in the community of such size is obvious, and WHEREAS, the chief administrator of the State Board of Health has indicated . .~. , .. ~ rl~n ~r.~ toward ~ ~"~ request for s~te!!iLe ' pu~l%' an .~ ..... a ...... PP ..... ~ a a facility operated by St. Vincent's Hospital Corp. (which may not be an all- purpose facility), and WHEREAS there has been no coordinated effort at either the local or state level to accept presentations from all those interests desirous of constructing a hospital in Carmel-Clay, and provide .hearings by which local citizens could listen to such presentations and add their own input into such decision-making by the State Board of Health, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana, that said Council requests the Head of the State Board of Health refrain from granting permission to St. Vincent's for a satellite hospital facility pending a hearing process conducted by the State Board of Health in which other interests have had the opportunity to make presentations and citizens of Carmel-Clay have had the opportunity to hear these presentations and offer their own input prior to a final decision being made by the Head of the State Board of Health.
