EXECUTIVE ORDER
JB 2005 - 5
WHEREAS, it is in the City's best interest to assist other government activities, and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally permitted the Police, Fire Department and other specialty
skill personnel to assist other governmental entities; and
WHEREAS, such services have long been provided as part. of the City's regular governmental
activities; and
WHEREAS, the City has been requested to assist in the disaster recovery efforts from the
damage incurred from Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans, Louisiana, Gulfport, Mississippi, or
Biloxi, Mississippi areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, l, James Brainard, the duly elected Mayor of the City of Carmel, Indiana,
pursuant to Indiana Code 35-44-2-4(f), do hereby order that any member of the Carmel Fire, Police
Department or other specialty skill employees may voluntarily perform up to 30 days of service for the
benefit of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, (FEMA) and other appropriate agencies having
jurisdiction over recovery efforts currently underway in the affected area. Such services must not
promote religion, attempt to influence legislature or governmental policy, or attempt to influence .
'elections to public office, and may be performed only with the approval of the employee's supervisor.
This Executive Order shall be in effect from and after August 31, 2005, unless sooner terminated by a
separate Executive Order.
