HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter #23 Beth MeyersTo Carmel Plan Commissioners: I am writing to express my thoughts re the Carmel Clay Comprehensive Plan Update. I realize the development patterns suggested are not zoning changes ‘per se’ ; however, if implemented, it will nonetheless affect residential properties that lie within the vortex of the proposed Downtown, Monon Urban Boulevard and Typical Corridor patterns. This includes my own property, which is currently zoned R-2. The Plan is often cited by DCS and developers when justifying development proposals. This fact, along with the DCS’ discretionary use of power to grant waivers and variances with regards to standards of height, coverage, sebacks, etc., is worrisome and can affect the integrity of my home and neighborhood. For the record, I have previously submitted my similar concern regarding a separate proposal DCS has on the dockets to amend zoning commitments and implement a C-2 zone for the entire block my property is situated on. If this C-2 amendment is granted it would profoundly magnify these concerns. I am not opposed to development and having a plan in place, The allure of a vital downtown area is what attracted me to purchase my home. Allowing my property to remain R-2 might possibly solve a few of the issues I have with C-2 development standards encroaching on my own enjoyable standard of living. I ask you to kindly consider my thoughts when hearing both of these proposals as the outcomes for each individually and as a set are intertwined. Thank you, Beth Meyers 331 W. Main Street
