HomeMy WebLinkAboutD-1396-98 Use of Leave TimeOrdinance D- 1396-98 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 3, DMSION II, SECTION 2-43 OF THE CAKMEL CITY CODE WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 3, Division 1I, Section 2-43 of the Cannel City Code C'Section 2-43") deals with vacation and sick leave credit; and WHEREAS, sick leave is a benefit accrued by eligible City employees for use under a very limited set of circumstances; and WHEREAS, the classification of permanent employee no longer exists; and WHEREAS, the rules for accrual of vacation and sick leave require clear definition; and WHEREAS, the ability to use leave not yet accrued undermines the intent and purpose of the City' s vacation and sick leave policies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Carreel, Indiana, as follows: Chapter 2, Article 3, Division II, Section 2-43 of the Carreel City Code is hereby mended to read as follows: "An employee shall accrue vacation and sick leave for the employee's first month of full- time employment with the City if the employee begins work on or before the 15th day of that month. An employee who begins work after the 15th day of any month shall accrue vacation and sick leave from the first day of the succeeding month. An employee on paid leave shall continue to accrue vacation and sick leave. An employee on short-term disability leave shall continue to accrue vacation 'and sick leave for the duration of the short-term disability leave, unless and until the employee's employment relationship with the City is terminated; an employee on long-term disability shall not accrue vacation and sick leave. An employee who takes unpaid leave must work at least one-half his or her scheduled work days in a month in order to accrue vacation and sick leave for that month. Vacation and sick leave shall. be credited at the end of each month. Probationary employees shall accrue vacation and sick leave on the schedule set out in Sections 2-4 1 and 2-42 of this Code, but shall not be' entitled to use accrued leave until full-time employment status has been attained." s This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect on and after the date of its passage, execution by the Mayor and publication as required by law. All prior Ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with any provisions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed as of the effective date of this Ordinance.
