HomeMy WebLinkAboutD-1279-97 Council Mtg AmendOrdinance No. D-1279-97 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA AMENDED SECTION 3-9 OF THE CARMEL CITY CODE ENTITLED "REGULAR AND SPECIAL MEETINGS, EMERGENCY SESSIONS" WHEREAS, Carmel City Code Chapter 3, Article 1, Division II, Section 3-9 regulates the meeting schedule of the Common Council; and WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Common Council to amend Section 3-9 to provide for circumstances which are not included in the current Code Section. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Cannel, Indiana: 1. that Chapter 3, Article 1, Division H, Section 3-9 of the Camel City Code is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 3-9 Regular and Special Meeting, Emergency Sessions? (a)( 1 ) Unless otherwise designated by a majority vote by the Common Council, the Common Council shall meet the first and third Mondays of each month. (2) If a declared national holiday falls on a meeting date there will be no meeting. A regular meeting shall be held the Monday following a declared national holiday at 7:00 p.m. or as otherwise determined by a majority vote of the Common Council. 8:00 a.m. for thc sole purpose of approving claims for the City. (b) The meetings shall be held at One Civic Square, and shall begin at 7:00 p.m. except for the first regular meeting in January of each year which shall begin at 7:30 p.m. or as otherwise directed by State Statute. (c) Special meetings of the Council may be called by the Mayor so long as forty-eight (48) hours advance notice has been given to each and every Council member either orally or by letter delivered to the Council member' s residence by the Mayor' s office. (d) Emergency sessions of the Common Council may be called by the Mayor without forty-eight (48) hours notice if there is a clear and present danger to the City. Such Council meetings may occur only if each and every Council member has been notified either orally or by letter as provided in paragraph (c). (e) canceled: Regularly scheduled meetings of the Common Council may only be ( 1 ) By a majority vote of the Common Council; or (2) If it is determined by the Presiding Officer of the Council, or its President Pro Tempore (aa) that upon written or oral confirmation by a majority of the members of the Common Council a quorum would not exist; or. (bb) that inclemem weather prohibits full participation. 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and signing by the Mayor. 3. All prior Ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with any provision of this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
