AN ORDINANCE FIXING SALAR/ES OF APPOINTED OFFICERS
AND EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA
FOR THE YEAR 1997
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, THAT:
Section 1. De~nition/Exp~:
a. BW shall mean Bi-Weekly (BW shall mean 37.5 hours (Full-Time
Employee) unless otherwise noted)
b. HR shall wean Hourly
c. Exempt Employee shall mean those employees
who are exempt from the overtime provisions of
the Fair Labor Standards A~t.
d. Non-Exempt Employee shall mean ~ose employees
to whom overtime must be paid.
TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA
I, the undersigned, James Brainard, Mayor of the City of Cannel, Indiana, as required by Indiana
Code 364-7-3 and Indiana Code 36-8-3-3, do hereby fix the maximum salaries and pay schedule of
appointed officers mid employees of the City of Carreel, Indiana beginning ~ber 28, 1996 and
continuing thereafter until ~ber 26, 1997 and request that such salary rates be approved by the
Common Council as follows:

Section 2. Police Officers, Firetighten and Civilians shall receive one hundred and fifty dollars
($150.00) above their salary per year for longevity. Torms and eondi~ of the longevity shall conform to
the City's most current personnel roles, regulations and ordinances as adopted by the Common Council.
Section 3. That the appointed members of the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Cable
TV Advisory Committee be paid the sum of $50.00 per regular scheduled meeting attended. Appointed
members of the Planning Commission shall receive an additional $50.00 per standing sub-committee
Section 4. That the appointed members of the Board of Public Works and Safety be paid a salary
of $3,167.25 per year. In addition to the salary, the members of the Board of Public Works and Safety
shall be paid $50.00 per meeting attended.
Section 5. That the full4hne city employees of the Depamnent of Community Services shall be,
(at the req,~st of the Departmeat Director) entitled to receive the sum of $50.00 per moeting, as additional
cotton for attending each regularly scheduled mee~ of the Plan Commission/Board of Zoning
Appeals, or their respective eommi_-_ees_, if such meeting is held outside of regular working hours of
8:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Such additional compensation shall be paid from the budgets of the Plan
Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals.
Section 6. That the compensation for overtime worked shall be paid to employees actorcling to the
poK~cies of the City of Cannel and shall be in atkiition to amounts herein specified.
Section 7. That First Class Patrolmen and Firefighters salaries as stated in this Ordinance shall be
used as the base salary for purposes of pension calculations.
Section S. That police officers exempted from Social Security may receive an identical percentage
of their salaries as determined for Social Security as an additional compenntion which may be deferred.
Section 9. That all employees who work a holiday shall receive Seventy Five Dollars ($75.00) for
that holiday shift which encompasses the 12:01 a.m. until midnight portion of that holiday.
Sectio~ 10. That the Carreel Metropolitan Police Depamnmt officers shall be given a clothing
allowaace of $750.00 per year; Two check-~ per year will be issued to each officer, one in the first pay of
Febnmry and one in the last pay of July. Each check would be in the ~t of $375.00.
Section 11. Except as otherwise specifically provided herein, that Pan-Time employees, as
distinguished from ~ose in the full employ of the City of Cannel, shall only be paid in accordance with the
Part-Time per hour compensafi~ and only in the Departn~t of hire from a part-time line item as set forth
in _this Ordinance.
Section 12. That the City Attorney shall be considered a Full-Time ~nploy~ for purposes of
qualifying for the employee fringe benefit program set forth in the Cannel City Code as amended from time

approve according to law.
