HomeMy WebLinkAboutD-1155 25 MPH School Zone25 MPH in Designated School Zones AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 8, ARTICLE 3, SECTION(S) 8-17, OF THE CARMEL CITY CODE BY THE AMENDMENT OF SECTION(S), ENTITLED 25 MPH in Desiqnated School Zones WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Carme1 places the highest priority on the health, safety and welfare of the school age children who live in the City of Carmel; and WHEREAS, in 1985 the Carmel City Code was amended to regulate the speed of traffic within designated school zones; and WHEREAS, the Carme1 Clay Board of Parks and Recreation has established a relationship with the Carmel Clay School Board to provide recreational opportunities on school properties that lie within said designated school zones; and WHEREAS, these recreational opportunities will cause children to be present in the designated school zones during times that may be outside of regular school hours and during times when schools have traditionally been closed; and WHEREAS, these recreational opportunities for school age children will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and/~ P-m-; N~% aL NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMO 0 OF THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: Section I. Chapter 8, Article 2, Section(s) 8-17, of the Carme1 City Code, is hereby amended to read as follows: The speed limit for all motor vehicular traffic Within properly designated school zones, shall be 25 miles per hour from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Section II. All prior Ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with any provision of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. Section IIi. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and signing by the Mayor.
