AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 9,
ARTICLE 2, OF THE CARMEL CITY CODE
BY THE INCLUSION OF SECTION 9-51 ENTITLED
"WATER METER PIT ACCESSIBILITY."
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana has
determined that standards governing water meter pit accessibility
are in the best interest of the City of Carmel;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL, OF THE
CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. Chapter 9, Article 2, Section 9-51, of the Carmel
City Code is hereby included to read as follows:
9-51. Water Meter Pit Accessibility.
Water meter pits must be in an accessible location
to allow the reading or inspection of the water meter.
No obstructions or conditions shall exist as to keep
the water meter from being read, replaced, or otherwise
maintained. Prohibited obstructions shall include, but
not be limited to, shrubbery, flower beds, vehicles or
other objects placed over the pit.
The water meter pit and lid is owned by the
property owner, who is responsible for the safe and
proper condition of the water meter pit and lid. The
water meter inside the pit or remote meter is owned and
maintained by the City of Carmel.
A violation of Section 9.51 shall be deemed an
ordinance violation and any person violating this
section is subject to a fine of not less than One
Hundred Dollars ($100.00).
Section II. All prior Ordinances, resolutions or parts thereof
inconsistent with any provision of this Ordinance are hereby
repealed.
Section III. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and signing by the Mayor.
