HomeMy WebLinkAboutD-363 Meridian St. Speed Limits ORDINANCE ~-~ AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A SPEED LIMIT ON MERIDIAN STREET WHEREAS it is desirable to establish a special speed limit for a specific street within the city limits of Carmel, Indiana. WHEREAS Indiana Code IC 9-4-1-58 authorizes the City of Carmel to establish a speed limit within the city limits, other than 30 M.P.H. after conducting a traffic study. WHEREAS Meridian Street is a street within the city limits of Carmel, formerly a part of US Highway 31 and abandoned by the State Highway Department to the City of Carmel. WHEREAS officers of the Carmel Police Department have received training on the proper method of conducting traffic studies. THAT said officer, or officers, did conduct a traffic study and did recommend the speed limit of Meridian Street should be established at 40 M.P.H. THEREFORE be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Carmel to-wit: THAT there is established a 40 M.P.H. speed limit for both directions of travel on Meridian Street from US Highway 31 to West Main Street (formerly Indiana Highway 234). THAT the City of Carmel will properly post 40 M.P.H. speed limit signs along Meridian Street. THAT this ordinance is in full force and effect after the of its passage.
