ORDINANCE D-1517-01
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
CARMEL, INDIANA ESTABLISHING A SEVERANCE PAY
FOR EMPLOYEES DISMISSED WITHOUT CAUSE
WHEREAS, all civilian employees of the City of Carmel are

resign the City's employment, or those who are terminated for cause, will not be
eligi for severance pay.
Whether any given employee is eligible for severance pay will be decided by a
committee consisting of the employee's Department Head (or the Mayor, if the
decision involves a DeparUnent Head), the Director of Human Resources and the
chairperson of the Council Administration Committee, in their sole discretion, which
decision shall be final.
Payment shall be made in a lump sum on the payday following the termination date,
if administratively possible. If not, payment will be made the following payday. This
payment shall be made in addition to any other compensation and/or benefits payable
at the time of termination.
This policy in no way alters a civilian employee's at-will employment status. The
City may terminate a civilian employee's employment, or the individual may
terminate his or her own employment, with or without cause and ~vith or without
notice, at any time."
Section II: All prior Ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with any provision of
this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section III: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and signing by the Mayor.
