SATELLITE RECEIVING ANTENNAS AS ACCESSORY USES
WITHIN THE CITY OF CARMEL, INDIANA
ORDINANCE NO. D-447
WHEREAS, the health, safety and aesthetic considerations of the owners and surrounding
land owners require regulation as to the location of satellite receiving antennas: and,
WHEREAS, this ordinance constitutes the least restrictive method to accomplish such
regulation; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Carmel has the authority to enact ordinances to regulate the
location of satellite receiving antennas; and,
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Carmel to have such regulations;
THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of Carmel that:
Satellite receiving antennas shall be permitted within all zoning districts of
the City of Carmel subject to the following regulations and subject to any and all
review and approval procedures within the Carmel Zoning Ordinance.
Ail satellite receiving antennas shall be:
(a) Located on the ground, to the rear of the principal building on the lot,
but not within a required side or rear yard as established by the Carmel
Zoning Ordinance.
(b) One satellite receiving antenna having all dimensions except height two (2)
feet or less may be located on the roof of a principal building.
3. Only one (1) satellite receiving antenna shall be located on any one lot.
A satellite receiving antenna may have a maximum height of eight (8) feet when
located on the ground, and when located on the roof of a building, shall not
exceed the height restrictions established by the Carmel Zoning Ordinance. In
no case shall a roof-mounted satellite receiving antenna extend more than four (4)
feet above the roof line.
5. A satellite receiving antenna having printed matter on its snrface shall be
treated as a sign relative to the Carmel Sign Ordinance.
6. A building permit shall be required prior to the erection of a satellite receiving
antenna having any dimension other than height greater than two (2) feet.

Ail cables, wires and connectors from a satellite receiving antenna to other
equipment shall be buried underground when an antenna is located on the ground,
or appropriately concealed when located on a building.
8. A satellite receiving antenna shall not be located within five (5) feet of any
easement or public right-of-way.
9. A satellite receiving antenna, when located on the ground shall be reasonably
landscaped and/or screened so as to minimize visibility from any public right-of-way.
10. A permit fee of forty dollars ($40.00) shall be required for a building permit for
a satellite receiving antenna.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage. Passed by the Common Council of the City of Carmel, Indiana, on
