ORDINANCE NO. D-1732-04
AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL~ INDIANA~
AMENDING CHAPTER 6~ ARTICLE 4~ SECTION 6-66(a) OF THE CARMEL CITY CODE
WHEREAS, the use and misuse of skateboards and similar wheeled toy vehicles on and upon
certain Carmel Clay Schools property has resulted in significant damage thereto, in dangerous situations
arising that could cause serious injury to the users of such toy vehicles and to the general public, and in an
increased risk of liability on account of same; and
WHEREAS, the use of skateboards and similar wheeled toy vehicles should be specifically
prohibited on Cannel Clay Schools property located within the City's corporate boundaries.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of Carmel,
Indiana, that:
Section 1. The foregoing Recitals are incorporated herein by this reference.
Section 2. Chapter 6, Article 4, Section 6-66(a) of the Carmel City Code should be and the same
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 6-66(a) No person riding on or by means of a skateboard, coaster, scooter or
similar wheeled toy vehicle or device shall do so on or upon either:
(i) any City-owned portion of the following property located within the City's
corporate boundaries:
A) Carmel Civic Square (including, but not limited to, the fountain and gazebo)
B) Carmel City Center
C) Rotary Plaza
D) Carmel Veteran's Memorial
E) Reflecting pool at AMLI
or (ii) any Carmel Clay Schools property located within the City's corporate boundaries."
Section 3. This Ordinance shall not affect any other provisions of City Code Section 6-66, all of
which remain in full force and effect.
Section 4. All prior ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with any provision of this Ordinance
are hereby repealed as of the effective date of this Ordinance.
Section 5. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, signing by
the Mayor and such publication as is required by law.
