AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THE REMOVAL OF SNOW FROM SIDEWALKS
ABUTTING BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS AND THE CUTTING OF HIGH WEEDS
AND GRASS AND THE REMOVAL OF DEBRIS AND RUBBISH FROM BETWEEN
SIDEWALKS AND STREETS ABUTTING BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENTS AND
FROM VACANT LOTS AND PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CO~ON COUNCIL of the City of
Carme 1, to-wit: ~ ~ HED~E~ Ri~Eli~ ~ ~4LT~ ~ IND.
1. That the owner or owners of real estate used for
business purposes within the corporate limits of the City of
Carmel where said owner or owners actually occupy said real
estate, and/or the tenants occupying said real estate, are
herewith required to remove accumulated snow from the sidewalks
abutting said real estate by 12 o'clock noon of any day, except
Sundays or legal holidays, that snow has accumulated on said
sidewalks within the previous twenty-four hour period.
2. Persons failing to comply with the provisions of
Section 1 of this Ordinance shall be subject to a fine not to
exceed $10.00 and costs for each offense.
3. It is herewith further ordained that the owners of
real estate located within the corporate limits of the City of
Carmel shall be required to cut high weeds and grass and remove
debris and rubbish from said real estate within five days after
reoeiving written notice of such requirement from the Building
Commissioner of the City of Carmel, and which notice shall be
made by registered mail or personal or copy service upon the
landowner if he is a resident of the City of Carmel, or by
registered mail addressed to his last known address if he is a
non-resident of the~City of Carmel.
4. It is further ordained that any owner of real estate
located within the corporate limits of the City of Carmel and/or
the tenant residing therein shall be required to cut high weeds
and grass, and remove debris and rubbish from the area between
streets and sidewalks adjacent to said real estate within five
days after reoeiving written notice of such requirement from
the Building Commissioner of the City of Carmel, and which
notice shall be made by registered mail or personal or copy
service upon the landowner or tenant if he is a resident of the
City of Carmel or by registered mail addressed to his last
known address if he is a non-resident of the City of Carmel.
5. Persons failing to comply with the provisions of
Section 3 or 4 of this Ordinance shall be subject to a maximum
fine of $10.00 and costs for each day of such non-compliance
after receipt of notice as required in said Sections.
6. It is further ordained that Ordinance No. D-8 passed
by the Town Board of Trustees of the Town of Carmel, Indiana on
the 24th day of February, 1914 is herewith repealed.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and publication for two consecutive weeks
pursuant to State statute.
