Town of Carmel, Be it ordained by the Board 6f Trustees of the Indiana, that any railroad company or railway company maintaining, running or operating a railroad along, through, upon or across certain streets in said town be and are hereby re- quired to erect and maintain au electric light or lsmp of not less ths_n 100 candle power at points where said tracks aross the follow- ing streets in said town, viz: One light where said track or tracks cross Water Street. One light where said track or tracks cross Main Cross Street. One light where said track or tracks cross North Street. Said lights to be so erected and maintained at such crossings to be light at night during the passage of every train, engine, or car, and for not less than thirty (30) minutes prior thereto. Section 2. Auy railroad compauy failing er refusing to comply with the provisions of this ordinance within sixty days from ~nd after notice as provided by law shall forfeit aud pay to the town of Carmel, Indiana, the sum of ten ($10.00) dollars per day for each AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING RAILROAD C0~.PA~IES TO ERECT AND MAIN~* TAIN ELECTRIC LIGHTS WHERE A TRACK OR TRACKS OF SUO~M CON~PANIES CROSS CER2AIN PUBLIC STREETS IN THE TOE OF C~EL, INDIANA, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. wHEHEAs, it is necessary for the security and safety of citizens and other persons from the rubx~mg of trains through the Town of Carmel, Indiana, by railroad companies running aud operating a railroad or railroads through and within said town, that an elec- tric light or lamp be kept and maintai~ued as hereinafter directed at certain places where the track or tracks of such railroad com- panies cross certain public streets in said town. second and last en the 27th d~y of September 1912.
