HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter #10 Margaret McCain19 December 2021 Carmel Plan Commission Carmel City Hall Department of Community Services One Civic Square Carmel, IN 46032 RE: Docket No. PZ-2021-00205 AP/ADLS: 11335 North Michigan Road Apartments Carmel Plan Commission, I have been a property owner in the Woodhaven subdivision for ten years. I was recently made aware of the development plans for the land immediately adjacent to the south end of the subdivision. Although the land’s development is eminent, I am opposed to the current plan, the variances included in the proposal, as well as the limited opportunity to respond to it. My understanding is that many of my neighbors in the subdivision share the same view; multiple neighbors have posed questions and concerns that have not been answered, and many misleading comments or omissions by the developers and their representatives regarding the project have been noted. The current proposal violates the unified development ordinance standards. Please do not let the potential for short-term financial gain compromise adherence to policies that protect the beauty of our city, protect existing/neighboring homeowners, and protect the integrity of the brand Carmel has been able to achieve. To disregard those ordinances will not only diminish neighboring property values, mine included, but also contribute to an erosion of the highly-regarded reputation that Carmel has established. Many of us were attracted to Carmel because of its high standards. Unless the city intends to abandon or compromise its current position, please give us the opportunity to be heard, and earnestly listen to ideas, alternate solutions, negotiable areas of concern, and be forthcoming with information so that all parties can make the best, most informed choice toward an agreeable decision. Lastly, I hope that the planning commission will consider all uses of the land that will benefit not only neighboring businesses and homeowners, but also the city of Carmel; many ideas have been brought forth as alternate uses for the space, including a greenspace that includes an aviary (specifically bald eagle) habitat. Please vote to deny this complex, and give the neighbors the opportunity to support Carmel’s efforts to elevate our fine city to even greater heights. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
