HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-03-15-76 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF POBLIC WORKS MARCH 15, 1976 The Board of Public Works was called to order at 2:05 p.m. by Mayor Albert B. Pickett, who presided. All members were present. Police Car Bids: Police ca~ bids were opened by City Attorney as follows: Less Trade Ins & Discounts NET BID (4)-4Dr. Sedans $26,099.20 $21,200.00 $18,943.92 Circle Chevrolet Bill Estes Chevrolet Hatfield Motors A late bid a~rived as follows: $6,881.16 $3,5oo.oo included $19,218.04 $17,700.00 $18,943.92 Westfield Lincoln-Mercury Inc.: (4) Mercury Montego 2 barrel carburetor with trade - $16,400.00 - option - 460V-8 4 barrel - $19,200.00 Mr. Kern moved to accept the Estes Chevrolet bid for 4 police ca~s subject to the Police Commissioners recommendation and further that Mayor Pickett to be signator for the contract. Mr. Hohl seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. Deteriorated Buildings: A report from the Building Commissioner was presented to the Board, on two deteriorated buildings. Report stated in his opinion these structures should be condemned and removed. Properties are located at 231 S. Rangeline Road and the former Methodist Church located on 1st St. SE. Mr. Kern moved that this report be forwarded to the City Attorney for action pursuent to state statue for removing the buildings at City expense and filing the expense on the tax rolls. Mr. Hohl seconded it and it passed unanimously. Carmel Knoll Apartments: Utilities Manager stated he had received notification of a bankruptcy filing by Cam~mel Enoll Apartments. They owe the City Utilities about $4,000.00. Clerk-Treasurer requested Utilities Mauager give her the amount owed on the sewage portion and how much is on deposit for possible filing lein against the property. City Attorney to file claim and contact the receivership for payment. Status of Lawsuits: City Engineer asked the status of the lawsuits the city is involved in. Mr. Kern stated there was no change since his last month report to the Mayor other than the fact we have picked up one which he would not be involved in. The City Council was being sued for zoning. Bookkeeper: Clerk-Treasurer stated the bookkeeper Utilities Manager Secretary, who had been doing the books for the utilities had been too busy to keep them up. The importance of up to date bookkeeping was stressed and Clerk-Treasurer stated perhaps a full time bookkeeper should be hired to do this inasmuch as the Public Service Commission has de- termined that we are a class C utility now and must keep more detailed books. Mayor, Utilities Manager smd Clerk-Treasurer to discuss it further. Mayor stated perhaps we can get some help from the 701 program for consultation on analyzing various departments for efficiency. Mr. Kern moved to dispense with the reading of the last meeting minutes and approve them as received, Mr. Hohl seconded it and it passed unanimously.
