HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCM-05-07-79MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING May 7, 1979 The meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:30 PM by Mayor Pickett, who presided. All members were present. Clerk-Treasurer and City Attorney were present also. Councilwoman Doane gave the invocation. Mayor Pickett led the pledge of allegiance. Councilman Swift moved to approve the minutes of the last regular meeting, Councilman Meacham seconded it and it passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS : AGENDA ITEM #1: REPORT FROM COMMITTEE CHAIRMEN : Councilman Garretson stated there would be a Public Policy meeting next Monday at 7:30 PM. He also asked that all campaign signs be taken down after the election. AGENDA ITEM #2: SECOND READING: ANNEXATION ORDINANCE #C-70 : Mayor Pickett stated this had been read at the last meeting. Councilman Garretson moved for the adoption of Ordinance #C-70, Councilwoman Reiman seconded it. Motion to adopt passed unanimously. USINESS: AGENDA ITEM #1: PUBLIC HEARING: ORDINANCE #D-213 SPECIAL APPROPRIATION FOR CONTRIBUTION TO HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Mayor Pickett read Ordinance #D-213. He stated the public hearing was open, first hearing comments from the Council. Councilman Coots stated that he had received calls wanting to know the legality and propriety of spending accumulated tax dollars for purposes that generally are felt to be more accomplished through charity efforts. Councilman Garretson, Clerk- Treasurer and Councilwoman Reiman expressed their opinion that the City should contribute to this worthy cause. Mayor Pickett then asked if there were any comments from the public. There were none. Councilman Swift moved for adoption of Ordinance #D-213, Councilman Garretson seconded it. Councilwoman Doane moved to suspend the rules, Councilwoman Reiman seconded it and it passed unanimously Motion passed 6-1, Councilman Coots voting nay. AGENDA ITEM #2: POSTING OF NOTICES AND BILLS : Councilman Horvath stated he had a petition of 45 names of citizens who are cdncerned about the political signs. He discussed the sign ordinance and the Indiana Code. Mayor Pickett stated he presumed that all the signs would be taken down after the election. AGENDA ITEM #3: RESOLUTION OF RESPECT FOR MR. JIM MARTIN: Mayor Pickett read the resolution. Councilman Garretson moved for the adoption of the resolution, Councilman Horvath seconded it and it passed unanimously. Motion to adopt passed unanimously. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM. Approved: ATtest
