HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-11-23-81MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS MEETING NOVEMBER 23, 1981 The meeting of the Board of Works was called to order by Mayor Reiman at 4:30 P.M. on November 23, 1981. Board members Bill Walker and Fred Swift were present. Also present was City Attorney, John Pearce and Clerk-Treasurer. Old Business Backhoe Bid Award - Phil Reddick, Street Superintendent recommended the acceptance of State Equipment alternate #l for the purchase of a John Deere backhoe. Mr. Walker made a motion to accept the recommendation of Mr. Reddick and award the backhoe bid to State Equipment for the purchase of a 1981 John Deere backhoe for a cost of $21,907. Motion seconded by Mr. Swift and passed unanimously. Mr. John Hockensmith of State Equipment thanked the Board for the business. New Business Bond Releases - Tom Welch, City Engineer recommended the release of bonds for sidewalks in Eden Estates, Section 8 and monuments and markers in Recherche'. Mr. Walker made a motion to release said bonds recommended by Mr. Welch. Motion seconded by Mayor Reiman and passed unanimously. Recommendation on Unemployment Compensation - The Clerk-Treasurer explained that the State had increased the unemployment rate from 1% to 2.7% after budget preparation. She stated that after looking at the past history of unemployment compensation paid into the State the City has overpaid more than $9000 over a 2 1/2 year period at the 1%rate. She recommended going to the reimbursement plan wherein the City repays the State for unemployment compensation claims against the City on a dollar basis as it is paid out. Following discussion, Mr. Swift made a motion to go to reimbursement of unemployment compensation. Motion seconded by Mr. Walker and passed unanimously. December 8 Special Meeting - Mayor Reiman stated the bids for the south plant expansion would be opened at the special meeting on December 8. It was decided that the December 8th meeting would replace the December 14th meeting. The schedule for Board of Public Works meetings for December is as follows: December 8, December 16 (claims approval) and December 28. Authorization of HNTB Assisting in Winterizing Gray Road Water Plant and Inspection of Elevated Water Tank - Mayor Reiman stated that Mr. Dougherty was requesting the authorization for services of HNTB to assist in the winterizing of the recently purchased water facility at Gray Road and for inspection of the elevated water tank. Mr. Swift made a motion to authorize HNTB to perform 11/23/81 Page 2 said services. Motion seconded by Mr. Walker and passed unanimously.
