CARMEL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 4, 1987
The meeting of the Carmel City Council was called to order by Mayor
Reiman at 7:00 P.M. on May 4, 1987, with Council members Miller,
Doane, McMullen, Johnson, Garretson, Fleming and Badger present.
Also present were City Attorney Andrews and Clerk-Treasurer
Hancock.
Miss Doane gave the invocation followed by the Pledge of
Allegiance.
Mr. Fleming made a motion to approve the minutes of April 20, 1987.
Motion seconded by Mr. Miller and passed unanimously.
Old Business
Ordinance D-512, Regulating Taxicabs and Limousines - Mr. Miller
gave a report of the committee meeting held to review the taxi
ordinance and reported that Touch of Class limousine service, and
Yellow, Metro and Carmel taxi services were represented at the
meeting. Mr. Miller explained the amendments made to the ordinance
following the meeting. Mr. Garretson made a motion to incorpo ate
the amendments per the committee report into Ordinance D-512.
Motion seconded by Ms. McMullen and passed unanimously. Mr. Badger
made a motion to amend Ordinance D-512 to add the word "service"
after the work limousine in paragraph B 1). Motion seconded by Ms.
McMullen and passed unanimously.
The Council reviewed the remaining ordinance and following
discussion, Mr Johnson made a motion to add the words "for all
or part of any year." after $25.00 in section D 1. and to strike
the remainder of paragraph D 2. after The first sentence. Motion
seconded by Mr. Badger and passed unanimously. Following further
discussion, the Council advised the Clerk-Treasurer that it was
their intent that any limousine or taxi service who had already
paid the;r 1987 fee, the 1987 fee would extend to the renewal date
of the ordinance, Mcy 1, 1988. Vote was taken on Ordinance D-512
which passed 6-1, Ms. McMullen voting nay and stating that her
objection to the ordinance was that advertising was allowed on the
taxis and she objected to the advertising.
There being no further business to come before the meeting, the
same was duly adjourned at 7:40 P.M.
