HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCM-01-19-87 MINUTES OF THE CARMEL CITY COUNCIL MEETING JAN. 19, 1987 Mayor Reiman called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M. with Council members Miller, McMullen, Doane, Fleming, Garretson, Johnson and Badger present. Also present was City Attorney Andrews and Clerk-Treasurer Hancock. Invocation was given by Miss Doane followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Mayor Reiman presented keys to the City to associates with five years of service: Firemen Moriarity, Williams, Spelbring & Police officers Graham and Reed. Mayor Reiman also presented the 5 year associates, Council members, City Attorney and Clerk-Treasurer with sesquicentennial mugs. Mr. Badger made a motion to approve the minutes of Dec. 22, 1986. Motion seconded by Mr. Fleming and passed unanimously. Old Business Reports on 3-Way Stop Requested at Carmel Drive and Gradle Drive - The Council was in receipt of a letter from the City Engineer stating he did not recommend the installation of a 3-way stop at Carmel & Gradle Drive. The report from the police department also did not recommend a stop at this intersection. It was the consensus of the Council that a stop Sign not be installed at Carmel Drive and Gradle Drive. New Business Election of Council President - Mr. Miller nominated Ted Johnson for president pro tem of the Carmel City Council. Nomination seconded by Mr. Badger. Vote was taken and Mr. Johnson was unanimously elected President pro tem of the Council. City Council - Plan Commission Appointments = Mr. Garretson made a motion to reappoint Sue McMullen, Minnie Doane and Vaughn Story to the Plan Commission Motion seconded by Mr. Badger and passed unanimously. Chaplain & Parliamentarian Appointment - Mayor Reiman appointed Miss Doane as Chaplain for the Council and Mr. Badger as Parliamentarian. The Clerk-Treasurer was asked to research the appointments to the Cable TV Advisory Committee and report if the council was to make an appointment. Carrnel Park Advisory Conmittee - The Council was in receipt of a letter from Mayor Reiman asking an amendment on Resolution 6-16-86-1 regarding the Carmel Park Advisory Committee. The request is that the Committee be expanded to include a member appointed by the League of Women Voters and that the terms be expanded to 2 or 3 years . Following discussion, Mr . Garretson made a motion to add a member to the Carmel Park Advisory Committee, said member to be appointed by the League of Women Voters. Motion seconded by Mrs. McMullen and passed unanimously. Mr. Garretson made a motion that the members appointed by the Dad ' s Club Chamber of Commerce serve a 2 year term and subsequent to the 2 year term to serve 4 year terms and that members to the Carmel Park Advisory Committee appointed by the Mayor, the Council and the School Board serve 4 year terms Motion seconded by Mr. Johnson and passed unanimously. Carmel City Council Jan. 19, 1987 - Page Two Mrs. McMullen made a motion to reappoint John Denkmann as the Council appointment for a 4 year term beginning Jan. 1, 1987. Motion seconded by Miss Doane and passed unanimously. -- Mayor Reiman reappointed Marsha Parsons for a 4 year term beginning Jan. 1, 1987. Revenue Sharing Request - The Council was in receipt of a letter from the Clerk-Treasurer setting forth the balance in the Revenue Sharing Fund and requests for the monies. Following discussion, Mr. Badger made a motion to authorize the Clerk-~reasurer to advertise for additional appropriation in the amounts of $25,000 for municipal elections. Motion seconded by Mrs. McMullen. Mr. Garretson made a motion to advertise for $15,000 for a special census. Motion seconded by Mr. Fleming. Vote was taken on the amendment which passed unanimously. Vote was taken on the motion as amended and said motion passed unanimously. There being no further business to come before the meeting, the same was duly adjourned at 8:24 P.M. APPROVED: ATTEST:
