HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCM-02-20-89CARMEL CITY COUNCIL FEBRUARY 20, 1989 7:00 P.M. CARMEL CITY COUNCIL The meeting of the Carmel City Council was called to order by Mayor Hancock. Councilors present were Minnie Doane, Alan Potasnik, Ted Johnson, Frank Fleming and Tom Irvin. City Attorney Steve Andrews and Clerk-Treasurer Susan Jones were also in attendance. The invocation was given by Councilor Doane followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. A motion was made by Councilor Irvin and seconded by MINUTES: Councilor Fleming to approve the minutes of February 6, 1989. All members voted aye. Seven new firefighters, the SWEARING IN OF NEW FIREFIGHTERS: largest group of firemen to be hired at one time, were sworn into office by Chief Steve Couts. A motion was made by APPOINTMENT TO BOARD OF ZONING AND APPEALS: Councilor Irvin and seconded by Alan Potasnik to appoint James G. Miller to the Board of Zoning and Appeals. The motion was seconded by Councilor Potasnik. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Councilor Johnson asked the status SALARY STUDY/ELECTED OFFICIALS: on the salary study for elected officials. Mayor Hancock stated she had called Jeff Birk and he was to get in touch with President Lonzo. She would call again and remind them of the requested survey. Councilor Johnson asked the 116TH STREET LIGHTING PROJECT STATUS: status of the 116th Street lighting project. Mayor Hancock stated they were waiting on the posts. Councilor Johnson wanted to go on PSI/CORNER OF 116TH AND GUILFORD: record by stating that many years ago the people at PSI came to the Plan Commission and to the Council with their proposed project for the corner of 116th and Guilford. At that time, verbal promises were made by PSI to keep the facility as was submitted at that time. Councilor Johnson stated he felt he and others had been betrayed by PSI only demonstrated by the horrible and awful looking building that is now to be built at that site. Councilor Johnson asked the Council to always be sure every i is dotted and every t is crossed on projects because someday down the road it will come back to haunt you if you don't.
