Conn stated he wanted the policy between the police and the civilians the same. Jones objected again saying that it wasn't fair to treat civilians differently in one department over another department. Hayor Johnson said he has hired consultants to research city policies and would have this completed in the next couple of months. This study would show inconsistencies in policy throughout the City. Johnson warned Conn that if the BPW passed such a policy tonight, that it was subject to change later. Conn stated no such written policy was available to civilian personnel at the present time. Jones stated city ordinance provided for maternity leave for civilian personnel. Hember Vaughn Story said he wondered what would happen if someone got pregnant and asked for leave under this new policy and during the study someone else requested leave and then after the policy showed an inconsistent benefit among civilians, would the City be liable for discrimination.
