6. ADDITIONAL LAYERS OF TYPE 'X' OR REGULAR GYPSUM BOARD SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE ADDED TO ANY SYSTEM.
7. SCREWS MEETING ASTM C 1002 SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE PRESCRIBED NAILS, ONE FOR ONE, WHEN THE LENGTH
AND HEAD DIAMETER OF THE SCREWS EQUAL OR EXCEED THOSE OF THE NAILS SPECIFIED IN THE TEST SYSTEM AND THE SCREW SPACING
DOES NOT EXCEED THE SPACING SPECIFIED FOR THE NAILS IN THE TESTED SYSTEM.
8. GREATER STUD SIZES (DEPTHS) SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE USED IN METAL -OR WOOD-STUD SYSTEMS. METAL STUDS OF HEAVIER GAGE
THAN THOSE TESTED SHALL BE PERMITTED. THE ASSIGNED RATING OF ANY LOAD-BEARING SYSTEM SHALL ALSO APPLY TO THE SAME
SYSTEM WHEN USED AS A NON LOAD-BEARING SYSTEM. INDICATED STUD SPACINGS ARE MAXIMUMS.
9. ALL FIRE-RESISTIVE SYSTEMS SHALL BE FIRE BLOCKED IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE CODE REQUIREMENTS.
10. ALL PENETRATIONS IN A FIRE-RATED SYSTEM SHALL BE FILLED WITH FIRESTOPPING MATERIAL AS REQUIRED BY LOCAL CODE.
11. WHEN NOT SPECIFIED AS A COMPONENT OF A FIRE TESTED WALL OR PARTITION SYSTEM, MINERAL FIBER, GLASS FIBER, OR CELLULOSE FIBER
INSULATION OF A THICKNESS NOT EXCEEDING THAT OF THE STUD DEPTH SHALL BE PERMITTED TO BE ADDED WITHIN THE STUD CAVITY.
12. PENETRATIONS (BOTH THROUGH PENETRATIONS AND MEMBRANE PENETRATIONS) OF WALL OR FLOOR/CEILING ASSEMBLIES SHALL BE FIRE-
RATED WITH AN APPROVED ASSEMBLY OR FIRESTOP SYSTEM. EXCEPTIONS INCLUDE: A MEMBRANE PENETRATIONS OF ELECTRICAL BOXES OF
ANY MATERIAL WHICH HAVE BEEN TESTED FOR USE IN A FIRE-RATED ASSEMBLY OR NON-LISTED METAL BOXES, PROVIDED BOXES ON
OPPOSITE SIDES OF FIRE-RATED WALL ARE SEPARATED BY A HORIZONTAL DISTANCE OF 24-INCHES OR SEPARATED BY SOLID FIRE-BLOCKING
PER OR SEPARATED ACCORDING TO THE LISTING OF THE BOX.
13. THE "APPROVED PENETRATION FIRESTOP SYSTEM" MUST BE INSTALLED AS TESTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM E814 OR UL1479 WITH A
MINIMUM POSITIVE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL OF 0.01 INCH OF WATER AND SHALL HAVE A FIRE-RATING NOT LESS THAN THE REQUIRED FIRE-
RESISTANCE RATING OF THE WALL PENETRATION.
14. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY FIRESTOP SOLUTIONS, INCLUDING FIRE CAULK, INTUMESCENT SEALS, OR COLLAR SYSTEMS, THE SPECIFIC
SYSTEM USED IN THIS PROJECT SHALL HAVE A UL NUMBER THAT GIVES THE INSTALLATION INFORMATION AND THE RATINGS AS TESTED BY
UL. A COPY OF THE UL REPORT SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE LOCAL FIRE MARSHALL FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO ITS INSTALLATION.
15. THE ADDITION OF WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS IN FIRE-RATED GYPSUM BOARD ASSEMBLIES IS PERMITTED AS DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION.
WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS THAT ARE 4 FT WIDE, MINIMUM 7/16" THICK ORIENTED STRAND BOARD (OSB) OR 15/32" THICK STRUCTURAL
SHEATHING (PLYWOOD) COMPLYING WITH DOC PS1 OR PS2, OR APA STANDARD PRP-108, MANUFACTURED WITH EXTERIOR GLUE, MAY BE
APPLIED HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY, TO THE FRAMING MEMBERS. VERTICAL JOINTS SHOULD BE CENTERED ON STUDS, AND STAGGERED
ON STUD SPACE FROM THE GYPSUM BOARD JOINTS. THE WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS ARE PERMITTED TO BE APPLIED EITHER AS (1) A BASE
LAYER (DIRECTLY TO THE WALL FRAMING AND UNDER THE GYPSUM BOARD), (2) IN BETWEEN GYPSUM BOARD LAYERS, OR (3) OVER THE TOP
OF THE COMPLETED GYPSUM BOARD LAYERS. WHEN WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS ARE USED ON TOP OF THE GYPSUM BOARD LAYERS OF
EXTERIOR WALL ASSEMBLIES, THE WOOD STRUCTURAL PANEL SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM THE EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT EITHER AS
SPECIFIED IN THE DESIGN OR AS SPECIFIED UNDER ITEM 10, EXTERIOR WALLS, BELOW. WHEN WOOD STRUCTURAL PANELS ARE ADDED TO THE
WALL ASSEMBLY, THE LENGTH OF THE FASTENER USED FOR THE OUTERMOST LAYER (EITHER GYPSUM BOARD OR WOOD STRUCTURAL
