HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPW-01-31-94 SPECIALCARMEL BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 31, 1994 6:00 P.M. CITY HALL/C OUNCIL CHAMBERS/ONE CIVIC SQUARE A special meeting of the Carmel Board of Public Works was called to order by Mayor Ted Johnson. Members present were Steve Brown and Rick McKinney. Clerk-Treasurer Susan Jones was also in attendance. Mayor CANCELLATION OF DISABILITY INSURANCE/JEFFERSON PILOT: Johnson stated that as a result of the survey of employees, 71% said they would not be interested in paying for disability insurance. Johnson said many employees were confused about their coverage. Johnson related numerous problems with the insurance company. Mayor Johnson recommended that effective February 28, 1994 that the city would no longer provide disability insurance to employees and that insurance would not be available to the employees through payroll deductions. That recommendation was considered a motion and seconded by Steve Brown. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Mayor Johnson made a motion to CONTRACT/HUBER, HUNT AND NICHOLS: hire Huber, Hunt and Nichols as project managers for the 126th Street Water Facility, Plant 5. Johnson related numerous problems with the contractor and also wanted this company to evaluate the change orders submitted by Commonwealth. Johnson said he wasn't sure if Commonwealth was doing them right. Steve Brown asked the Mayor what these guys do that Commonwealth isn't doing. Johnson replied that Commonwealth is hired to make sure the project is being built according to specifications. Johnson stated this is the same company the school board hired to mover their building project along. Johnson sighted concerns over the delays by the contractor. Brown asked if there will be some offsetting fees from the contractor and Commonwealth. Johnson said maybe. The motion was seconded by Rick McKinney. All members voted aye. Motion carried. The original and all copies were retained by the Mayor. The Mayor stated he would get the contracts signed by the vendor and return them to the clerk. Steve Brown made a motion to GROUND HOGS DAY RUN/FEBRUARY 7, 1994: approve the Indy Runners, Ground Hogs Day Run to be held on February 7, 1994 contingent upon the Clerk-Treasurer receiving proper insurance certificates. The motion was seconded by Rick McKinney. All members voted aye. Motion carried. There being no further business before the Board the meeting was duly adjourned.
