COUNCIL CHAMBERS / CITY HALL / ONE CIVIC SQUARE MEMBERS PRESENT: The meeting was called to order at 5:38 p.m. Council members in attendance were Luci Snyder, Robert Battreall, and Ron Carter. Mayor James Brainard was also in attendance. Council member Billy Walker arrived at 5:40 p.m. Mary Eckard and Carl Mills from the Clay Township Board were in attendance along with Township Tmstee, Judy Hagan. Board member Rosmary Hensel arrived at 5:47 p.m. NEW BUSINESS: The topic of discussion was the placement, Financing, and staffing of a new firestation to be located in northwestern Clay Township and the moving of Station #2. One issue raised was to build both stations at the santo time to capture economic benefits. Another issue raised was the possible fina~cing of the Station #2 construction only by the Township. The new station could be fimded by a 60%-40% split between the City and the Townsh/p with the Township paying the lesser percent. Specifics of the locations and the financing have not yet been determined. A $400,000 pumper for the new station could be paid for with the EMS Fund. A meeting in early September with both bodies is possble to discuss speftfics. The issue of the City of Carmel's Fire Department budget was brought up by Council member Snyder. The Mayor stated for the record that he agreed to increase the budget for twelve new frrefighters instead of nine. Council member Snyder made a motion to approve the budget changes for 12 new firefighters. Council members Snyder and Walker voted for the increased budget. Council members Carter and Battreall were concerned about the Township's position with the other joinder budgets and therefore did not vote yea or nay for the increase in the fire department budget.
