EXECUTIVE ORDER
JB 2005 - 6
WHEREAS, it is meet and right for the City of Carmel, Indiana to come to the aid of other
governmental entities in their time of need, and
WHEREAS, the City has traditionally permitted its police officers, firefighters and other
specialty skill personnel to assist such governmental entities; and
WHEREAS, the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina to the southern coastal regions of the
United States has created a crisis of epic proportions, has severely hampered the ability of local
governments in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama to render timely ass/stance to their constituents, and
has made it imperative that communities such as ours provide whatever assistance they can to these
fellow Americans in need; and
WltEREAS, the.City has chosen to provide such assistance by "adopting" the City of' Long
Beach, Mississippi, and thereby supportiog their recovery efforts.
NOW, THEREFOPd:~, 1, James Brainard, the duly elected Mayor of the City of Carmel, Indiana,
pursuant to Indiana Code 35-44-2-4(0, do hereby order that any City of Carmel employee may
voluntarily perform up to 30 days of service utilizing their City of Carmel work skills and training for
the direct benefit of the City of Long Beach, Mississippi and its current Hurricane Katrina recovery
efforts, so long as such services do not promote religion, attempt to influence legislative or
govermnental policy, or attempt to influence elections to public office, and are performed with the prior
approval of the employee's supervisor.
This Executive Order supercedes and replaces Executive Order JB 2005 - 5 and shall be in effect from
and after September 20, 2005, unless sooner terminated by a separate Executive Order.
SO ORDERED THIS 20th DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2005.
