It is my understanding that a municipal inspector has expressed concems about the support of the header at the Family Room fireplace opening. The header is a 2-p1y, 2x10 which supports the roof tnJ$S load. 11$ clear span is approximately 42". The header is supported by 2x6 cripple studs and the Family Room face of the header is flush with the inside face of the framed wall. A 2-ply, 2x10 of this Ieogth is capable of supporting the roof load in this condition. Only one cripple stud is required at each end. Two-by-four cripple studs are adequate for support Two-by-six studs are also adequate and it is not detrimental for the 2-pIy, 2x10 header to be flush with one face of the stud. Therefore no remedial action is necessary for this condition. Please contact me with any further questions or commenl$. My opinion, stated herein, is Hmited to those issues discussed. Other issues regarding the construction, if any, are beyond the scope of this letter. John D. Schwarz, PE Structural Engineer (.~tr:iE~'~ . . ~,.';;:"-'i>\Sll.'llh'-:{""\ "";) ~ 'I.~ v....
