1. Per Indiana Fire Code 503.2.5 Dead-end fire apparatus access
roads in excess of one hundred fifty (150) feet in length shall be
designed and constructed so as to allow the turning around of the
longest piece of fire apparatus available to the servicing fire
department. Fire Apparatus turn arounds shall be provided during
and after construction. Developer/Builder will comply with this
code and review with CFD
2. IFC 3313.1 Where required. In buildings required to have
standpipes by Section 905.3.1, not less than one standpipe shall
be provided for use during construction. Such standpipes shall be
installed when the progress of construction is not more than 40
feet (12 192 mm) in height above the lowest level of fire
department vehicle access. Such standpipe shall be provided with
fire department hose connections at accessible locations adjacent
to usable stairs. Such standpipes shall be extended as
construction progresses to within one floor of the highest point of
construction having secured decking or flooring. Highest finished
floor height is 35’ above finished grade. Builder doesn’t believe
this will be required
3. IFC 3310.1 Required Fire Department Vehicle
Access. Approved Asphalt fire apparatus access roads shall be

provided to and through the construction site during
construction. Fire Apparatus access road must be capable of
supporting the weight of fire apparatus and maintained clear at
all times. Developer/Builder will comply with this code and
review with CFD.
4. Per IFC 1015.1 Two exits shall be provided from area B 1st floor
area designed at office 102 with an occupant load of 98. Per
section 1014.2 exiting shall not pass through storage areas such
as the bike storage space. Architect/Contractor to assure two
exits are provided for spaces with occupant loads requiring them
5. All required exit doors from the amenity space shall not be
provided with a lock or latch unless it is panic or fire exit
hardware as required by section 1008.1.10 of the IFC. Design
team and Contractor will insure through the construction process
that all exit doors from the amenity space meet this standard.
6. Exit signs shall be installed at each required exit door per section
1011.1 of the IFC. Several doors in the building did not have
exit signs located directly at the exit doors. Design team and
Contractor will insure through the construction process that all
exit doors have the appropriate and code compliant exit signs.
7. Emergency exit lighting shall be installed in the amenity space as
required by section 1006.3 of the IFC. Design team and
Contractor will insure through the construction process that all
exit doors have the appropriate and code compliant exit lighting.
8. Single Station Smoke Alarms shall be installed as required by the
sections below. The Electrical designer shall make contact with
CFD Fire Marshal’s Office to discuss the requirements of this
section. All fire alarm systems will be designed to meet each
building group and type and will be submitted to the State of
Indiana and CFD for review and approval.

907.2.11.2 Groups R-2, R-3, R-4 and I-1. Single or multiple-station
smoke alarms shall be installed in
Groups R-2, R-3, R-4 and I-1 regardless of occupant load at all of the
following locations:
1. On the ceiling or wall outside of each separate
sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of bedrooms. All fire alarm
systems will be designed to meet each building group and type and will
be submitted to the State of Indiana and CFD for review and approval
2. In each room used for sleeping purposes.
Exception: Single- or multiple-station smoke
alarms in Group I-1 shall not be required
where smoke detectors are provided in the
sleeping rooms as part of an automatic smoke
detection system. All fire alarm systems will be designed to meet each
building group and type and will be submitted to the State of Indiana and
CFD for review and approval.
3. In each story within a dwelling unit, including
basements but not including crawl spaces and
uninhabitable attics. In dwellings or dwelling
units with split levels and without an intervening
door between the adjacent levels, a smoke alarm
installed on the upper level shall suffice for the adjacent lower level
provided that the lower level is less than one full story below the upper
level. All fire alarm systems will be designed to meet each building
group and type and will be submitted to the State of Indiana and CFD
for review and approval
907.2.11.3 Interconnection. Where more than one
smoke alarm is required to be installed within an individual
dwelling unit or sleeping unit in Group R or I-1
occupancies, the smoke alarms shall be interconnected
in such a manner that the activation of one alarm will
activate all of the alarms in the individual unit. Physical

interconnection of smoke alarms shall not be
required where listed wireless alarms are installed and
all alarms sound upon activation of one alarm. The
alarm shall be clearly audible in all bedrooms over
background noise levels with all intervening doors
closed. All fire alarm systems will be designed to meet each building
group and type and will be submitted to the State of Indiana and CFD
for review and approval
907.2.11.4 Power source. In new construction,
required smoke alarms shall receive their primary
power from the building wiring where such wiring is
served from a commercial source and shall be equipped
with a battery backup. Smoke alarms with integral
strobes that are not equipped with battery back-up shall
be connected to an emergency electrical system. Smoke
alarms shall emit a signal when the batteries are low.
Wiring shall be permanent and without a disconnecting
switch other than as required for overcurrent protection.
Exception: Smoke alarms are not required to be
equipped with battery backup where they are connected
to an emergency electrical system. All fire alarm systems will be
designed to meet each building group and type and will be submitted to
the State of Indiana and CFD for review and approval.
9. Provide confirmation that fire alarm notification devices are
installed in each apartment unit to provide compliance with the
2010 Edition of NFPA 72 and section 907 of the Indiana Fire
Code. All fire alarm systems will be designed to meet each
building group and type and will be submitted to the State of
Indiana and CFD for review and approval.
10. Post Indicator Valves should be provided on fire mains prior to
entering the buildings. Valves are to be installed with proper
clearance to allow for proper operation and

maintenance/replacement. Site drawings call for and show
appropriate PIV’s for each building fire system
11. Provide confirmation the elevators in the buildings can
accommodate an ambulance cot. Contractor confirmed with
Elevator subcontractor and cabs will accommodate and
ambulance cot.
12. Provide a Knox Switch for any vehicle access doors to indoor
parking areas. Contractor will assure appropriate Knox boxes and
Knox switches at the direction of and as required by CFD.
13. Provide Confirmation that electronic locking devices unlock
upon fire alarm activation. Design team and Contractor will
insure these fail safes are interfaced with the fire alarm system
14. Submit fire alarm and fire sprinkler plans to CFD once
available. Once contracts are awarded and as soon as drawings
are completed, both the fire alarm and fire sprinkler plans will be
submitted to CFD .
15. Per IFC section 3312.1 Fire Hydrants shall be fully functional
tested and approved prior to any combustible materials arriving on
the construction site. Developer/Contractor will provide this
information, prior to combustibles brought on site if not sooner.
16. Per IFC section 503 fire department vehicle access shall be
maintained to existing structures at all times. Contractor will keep
access available to CFD for emergency access during construction.
