The only thing we did not agree on was the number of grasses in the flagpole bed, but Blue Grass Farms in Anderson has them for $12.75 each (5 gal. - which will usually grow to maturity in 1 to 2 years. The fence area required to be landscaped is an est. 80 feet in length. Two deciduous trees have already been planted along the street in the referenced area in 2004. Two existing (somewhat mature) Norway spruce trees are along the fence already. Three 8' tall Norway spruce trees with mulched areas will be added equally spaced along the fence line from the corner of the fence to the flagpole (est. 80 ft.). mature size 60' x 25' Two shrub plantings that are at least 36" in height will be added between the three Norway spruce trees (common witch hazel or blackhaw viburnum), mature size 15' X 12' A mulched planting bed will also be added around the flagpole with at least three (3) ornamental grasses (Giant Reed Grass or Plume Grass), mature height 10'. Work will be completed no later than 5/31/2006. This should meet your needs, and the needs of your neighbors. Contact me if there are any other questions. I do not recommend planting a single species, but a significant mixture for diversity along the length of the fence: Shrubs species Thuja occidentalis Pice a g/auca "Conica' Hamamelis virginiana Viburnum rufidu/um Rhus typhina Small tree species Syringa reticulate C/adrastis kentuckea Carpinus carolinana Arborvitae species varieties: Nigra, Techy, and/or Spring Grove 'Grovpli' Dwarf Albert Spruce Common Witchhazel Blackhaw Viburnum Staghorn Sumac 'Ivory Silk' Japanese lilac tree American yellowwood American hornbeam If you plant or mass no more than 3 or 4 in a row, you will avoid many of the problems of planting "mono- cultures", You can FAX me back at 571-2426 or send me a return email.
