Subject:New Pickleball Facility at 116th and Pennsylvania - Zoning Public Hearing 10/24/2022 6pm

Hi Zoning Committee-
I am writing this email in support of the petition to rezone property located at the Pennwood Office Park in Carmel,
IN. I have been playing pickleball for 5 months and currently play 6 days a week in Carmel and the surrounding
area. Not only is it difficult to find dedicated outdoor courts in our parks, but I have also found it difficult to find
facilities that offer indoor pickleball court times that are on dedicated pickleball courts. I think there is 1 location in
Indianapolis only for indoor dedicated courts. A great majority of the facilities offer pickleball on basketball courts
and/or share court time with other sports. Most of these locations only offer daytime hours or limited evening hours
appealing to the retirement crowd, not the working middle class.
It is especially difficult to find court times in the evenings during the week and on weekends, which is needed for
people that work full time during normal business hours. With the weather we have in Central Indiana (4 seasons of
unknown weather), the ability to play pickleball indoor is much needed at least 4-6 months of the year.
The facility is important to our community because pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States and
pickleball courts are in huge demand currently.
Pickleball saved my life. I would love the opportunity to play indoor pickleball in this new facility and fully support this
petition so that a new pickleball facility can be built.
Regards,
Melissa
