Meridian Street, Suite 380 Carmel, IN 46032 Re: Rohrer Road By: Judson R. Scott Registered Consulting Arborist #392 American Society of Consulting Arborists and Patrick Grecu, Natural Resource Specialist February 24, 2006 4721 East 146th Street, Carmel, IN. 46033. 317.846.3778 Location Rohrer Road property The property is located a 1320 Rohrer Road in Carmel, Hamilton County, Indiana. Assignment and Scope of Work 1. Inspect the properly and provide an analysis of the natural resources. 2. Mark these natural resources on an aerial photo. 3. Rate the wooded areas. 4. Note and mark any unusual or exceptional trees or landmarks. 5. Record species of flora and fauna found on site. 6. Photo -document property if requested. Limitations Inspections were conducted February 20, 2006. As such, they are limited by the time frame and present field conditions. These are not long-term observations that would be needed to fully represent the full spectrum of plants and animals, which use the land over the course of the year and the changing seasons. Early spring, summer, and fall blooming plants, as well as migrating animals are some of the categories that are not represented in this report. Methodology All areas in the scope of work were inspected on foot. Tallies of the tree species were taken by species and size. The property was separated into different areas defined by changes in tree, plant, or land cover characteristics. These areas are plotted on the aerial photo attached as Appendix A. All animals and birds seen, heard, or found evident by sign were noted. Plants seen along the way were also noted. All plants, animals and other life noted during the inspection are listed in the appendices. More complete lists could be obtained through more intensive investigations. Findings The Rohrer Road property is currently a residential property with that has a house and a garage located near the center of the property. The property occupies approximately 6.5 acres and is located in a suburban area that is surrounded by existing subdivisions and is bordered by Rohrer Road and the Monon trail on the east. The majority of the area is wooded, with mostly young trees present. An open field is present in the west portion of the property with trees present along the fence line on all sides. There are piles of debris scattered throughout the property as well as a chain link fence surrounding the house and garage. The topography on the site is relatively flat with no significant changes in elevation. The property can be divided into two major areas: the wooded area in the eastern portion surrounding the existing buildings (Section A), and the open field in the western portion (Section B). Vine & Branch, Inc. Anderson Corporation/Rohrer Rd. Judson R. Scott, RCA #392 PJG 2.24.2006 317.846.1424 Page 3 of 20 Discussion This property contains mostly weak wooded, short lived tree species that do not hold much landscape value. Section A is made up of mostly boxelder, black locust, hackberry, silver maple, and white mulberry. These trees are not high quality trees and, with the exception of providing a visual barrier, do not have much value in a landscape setting. This section has a lot of debris (cinder blocks, old wood pallets, and brush) that is scattered throughout this wooded area. This wooded area provides shelter, food, foraging areas, and nesting grounds for the variety of wildlife in the area. Section B is an open field with trees lining the north, west, and south fence lines. Young silver maple, black locust, boxelder, and hackberry represent the majority of the tree species present in this section. The open field is comprised of various pasture grasses, and field weeds. The trees along the fence lines have landscape value; they provide a visual barrier and landscape buffer for the neighboring residents. Any trees that are to be preserved near future home sites should be individually assessed to determine the health and structural integrity of each tree. Photo numbers 4, 5, and 14 exhibit trees in need of care. Proper care will help maximize the long-term health of the tree and to minimize potential risks. Conclusion The Rohrer Road property is currently a residential property with that has a house and a garage located near the center of the property. The majority of the area is wooded, with mostly young trees present. The property can be divided into two major areas: the wooded area in the eastern portion surrounding the existing buildings (Section A), and the open field in the western portion (Section B). The topography on the site is relatively flat with no significant changes in elevation. Section A is located in the eastern portion of the property that borders Rohrer Road. This wooded area is mostly young growth with only a few large trees present. There are piles of debris scattered throughout this section, especially in the area south the existing home. There are many fallen trees throughout this section. The vast majority of the tree species in this section are not high quality species. This section would be classified as "young woodland" according to Carmel's Subdivision Control Ordinance ROSO III definitions (7.05.07). Section B is located in the west portion of the property and includes the open field and the trees that line the property on the north, west, and south portions of the fence line. The trees present in this section are weedy, weak wooded species that have little landscape value beyond providing a visual barrier. This section would be classified as "undefined open space" according to Carmel's Subdivision Control Ordinance ROSO III definitions (7.03). All trees that are to be preserved should be protected during construction. They should also be inspected, pruned, and cleaned up to remove any broken limbs and reduce potential risk. I certify that all the statements of fact in this report are true, complete and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief, and that they are made in good faith. Judson R. Meridian St., Suite 380 Carmel, IN 46032 Re: Rohrer Road Development Enclosed is the Tree Inventory for the Rohrer Road property. A total of 109 trees comprised of 14 species were inventoried. These trees possess a total of 1644 diameter inches. Seven tree species account for 72% of the relative abundance. These four species are: silver maple (Aeersaccharinum), hackberry (Celtis occidentalis), black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), and black walnut (Juglans nigra). The majority of the species found on site were young trees that are fast growing, weak wooded species. A handful of trees that received a condition rating of 3 need further analysis to assess the structural stability of the individual tree. Trees that received a condition rating of 4 or 5 were not inventoried and are not listed. Trees that were determined to have a high potential to tail were not tagged but were marked with orange ribbon. These trees are potentially hazardous and should be removed.
