Subject: Objection to Main Steet Property Variance
The City of Carmel missed a golden opportunity to buy the property located at 4991 Main
Street, across from the Fire Station. It’s such a shame all the trees were cut down on this
property! This piece of land could have been developed into a small park or sold to Carmel
Clay Schools or the Carmel Dad’s Club. Instead, it’s become a terrible eye sore!
It’s my understanding the owner wants to operate an insurance business on the site. I have
concerns about the sale of the property because the buyer’s zoning requests seem
inappropriate for the location.
Business does not need 17 parking spaces for an insurance business! This is not a
grocery store! I can’t imagine their needing 17 parking spaces for staff and clients!
Parking should be located in the rear of the building – not the front.
Sign should be located further away from the street
Only one sign is needed!
Simple lighting should be used to maintain the look of a private residence –lamp post
and doorway sconces.
