HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter #55 William McGinnis Shestak, Joe From:william_mcginnis_300@comcast.net Sent:Saturday, January 21, 2023 12:07 PM To:Shestak, Joe Subject:(SE) 44 Horseshoe Lane Group Home. For January 23 BZA: Docket No. PZ-2022-00208 SE. UDO Section 2.07 Residential Special Exception Follow Up Flag:Follow up Flag Status:Completed Joe, sorry for the late response. I was out of town last week. Just reviewed my message and want to comment on the above proposal. Hope my email is not too late. Thanks. I read the petitioner’s request. This is a slippery slope. Would this open the door for halfway houses, rehab centers, etc. The document states: The Petitioner seeks Special Exception approval for an 8-person group home for elderly residents with some level of disability where they require support services. How do they define “elderly and some level of disability”? What criteria measure age and disability? What are “requires support services” mean? Will there be a licensed physical therapist present, RN, BSN, etc.,? 24 hour coverage? Will the “house” be equipped with special buttons in each room, including the bathrooms that can be pushed in the event of a medical emergency? Who pays for these services? Elderly and disabled are often targets of assault/robbery. What about security? While this is an admirable concept, I think these types of individuals are best cared for in established, licensed facilities such as senior centers, assisted living, etc. William “Bill” McGinnis President, Williams Mill HOA E-mail: william_mcginnis_300@comcast.net Mobile: 317.979.2483 1
